Peraton is seeking a Summer 2024 Formal Methods Research Intern in support of our Peraton Labs - Network Systems team in Basking Ridge, NJ. This role can be supported 100% remotely.   Peraton Labs delivers innovative solutions and revolutionary new capabilities to solve the most difficult and complex challenges for government agencies, utilities, and commercial customers. With a distinguished heritage tracing back to Bell Labs, Bellcore, DHPC, and Telcordia, we are a self-sustaining research center within Peraton that provides applied research and engineering to enable government agencies, utilities and commercial enterprises to fully exploit the future of communications, analytics and cyber security.   Role and responsibility for this position: We are seeking an intern for Summer 2024 who will work with project management and team members to design, implement, test, and integrate novel solutions to problems within projects under the Network Systems umbrella.

This position is an integral member of the Peraton Labs Network Systems and Cyber Mission Sector team supporting a customer site in College Park, Maryland.   Responsibilities may include: - Implement, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse research infrastructure systems and their appropriate security posture. - Perform Linux and Microsoft Windows system administration tasks. - Windows and Linux server system administration - Integrating GOTS/COTS/open-source solutions - Virtualization technologies - Networking and TCP/IP protocols - Storage technologies - Remote access - Install, configure, and troubleshoot IT/networking hardware and software in classified and unclassified spaces; Activate network ports including patch network when needed. - Interface with the customer as well as monitor and direct subcontract tasking - Implement, maintain, and enhance a complex and diverse development environment. - Prepare and maintain images for Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems. - Configure new systems and apply best practice security configuration on computers, servers, and network equipment. - Perform system and anti-virus tool updates regularly. - Install, configure and troubleshoot hardware, networking devices and software. - Implement physical controls. - Physically setup, cable, and power computers in classified and unclassified spaces for new programs or new computer additions; Activate network ports including patch network when needed. - Devise information system backup mechanism for program’s specific requirements; perform system/date backup and archive logs according to security plan; exercise system and data recovery procedures regularly. - Create custom solution or provide commercial tool recommendations to automate audits procedures where SCAP Compliant Checker lacks proper functions to support. Examples include automated log rotation, mechanism to alert audit process failures, or scripts to detect inactive accounts. - Support ISSM to perform audit tasks as needed. - Develop and execute approved procedures for sanitizing and releasing system components and media. - Maintain a working knowledge of system functions, security policies, technical security safeguards, and operational security measures. - Complete required trainings timely

We are looking for candidates with a strong research background in machine learning research and software development for full-time positions. Candidates will work with teams to research, conceive, and develop prototypes, and should be adept at identifying successful approaches to complex problems.   You will be responsible for participating in research projects and working with a team of research scientists to design, implement and test solutions in the areas of machine learning applied to a variety of areas, including cybersecurity, wireless and wired networks, and related areas. The candidate will perform research in areas related to AI assurance, including the detection, mitigation, and assessment of adversarial machine learning attacks on AI systems.  The candidate will also participate in preparing presentations and demonstrations for technical information exchanges with customers.  With time, the candidate will take on leadership roles and provide assistance with writing research proposals in the areas of machine learning and its applications.

Within this Peraton Labs role you will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and prototyping of a substation automation system testbed to be used in a research environment.   The candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of research and development projects. This position presents a great opportunity for candidates that are looking to work on challenging, cutting-edge technology across diverse areas. - Experience in protection & control system, OT networks, control system integration, communications, IEC61850 systems, testing and commissioning of such systems - Experience in the application of NERC CIP and good utility cyber security practices to digital substations - Broad understanding of power system design, operation, maintenance and testing methods - Knowledge of protection and control schemes for electrical power systems, including relay settings, coordination, and fault analysis - Demonstrated ability to effectively manage engineering personnel as well as cross-functional teams - Ability to effectively develop staff in key technical areas supporting the digital substation design and evolution - Ability to produce clear and concise written documents and verbal presentations on technical, business and social issues - Strong background in development and management of government programs - Work closely with the Principal Investigator to track, prioritize, plan, staff, and implement a research program. - Define and document project objectives, requirements, execution plans, and key performance parameters. - Provide project direction, oversight and feedback to assigned project staff. - Acquire internal and external resources and manage project resources to deliver projects on time and according to plan. - Help the project to achieves requirements including, milestones and key performance indicators. - Track project performance and identifies project issues and adverse trends and implement timely and effective recovery plan(s) as needed. - Produce progress reports and status reports reportable to external customers.

Role and responsibility for this position:  The Senior AI Planning Research Scientist will solve hard, real-world planning problems requiring nothing less than state-of-the-art solutions. You’ll take responsibility for accomplishing specific deliverables within a small team setting of fellow engineers.  You’ll communicate and collaborate with fellow team members and help guide junior staff.    Peraton Labs generates transformative applied research to fuel solutions for our customer’s unique challenges. We are a self-sustaining research center within Peraton that provides applied research and engineering to enable government agencies, utilities, and commercial enterprises to fully exploit the future of communications, analytics, and cyber security.   Who we’re looking for:  - Cyber: We are looking for staff with a strong interest (and ideally a track record) in cybersecurity research and development. - Generalists: You should have a breadth of knowledge across multiple domains.  You’ll typically focus your work on the domain(s) of your specialty or preference, but a strong multi-domain awareness and ability is required.  You should have a curiosity to learn new technology.   - Tangible: You’ll work on applied research programs to conceive and develop prototypes to solve cutting-edge, complex problems.
