    Peraton is seeking a Senior Spectrum Management Engineer in Houston, TX to support the JSC Engineering, Technology and Science Contract (JETS) with NASA on-site at Johnson Space Center (JSC). This position provides support to the NASA JSC Spectrum Management Office to support JSC's Mission Operations for the International Space Station in the area of frequency spectrum management and requires knowledge of satellite and terrestrial communications systems (including link budgets, general radio theory and basic orbital mechanics, satellite orbital dynamics), and knowledge of domestic and international regulations governing the use of the radio frequency spectrum.




    • Determine the performance of Radio Frequency (RF) communication links and create link budgets using analytical methods or by applying analysis and simulation tools.
    • Perform Radio Frequency interference and compatibility analysis for Space based communication systems.
    • Perform system compatibility analysis for space systems, including missions in support of NASA's International Space Station (ISS)
    • Work with NASA projects to develop national filings required to register communications systems, which will include use of Spectrum XXI and El Cid.
    • Conduct technical studies and prepare analysis packages for coordination meetings with other agencies, including DoD, DoC, ESA, and JAXA.
    • Perform data reductions, analyze, and document results for presentation to customers.
    • Have thorough knowledge of digital communications, RF system analysis, FEC coding, and communications engineering.
    • Have in depth understanding of communication systems such as phase modulation (BPSK, QPSK, etc), spread spectrum, signal detection, signal and interference analysis, baseband filtering, data formatting, etc.
    • Possess knowledge of spectrum regulations, regulatory approval process, radio frequency compatibility/interference assessment. 
    • Be familiar with antennas, antenna polarization, power spectral density & spectral roll-off, Power flux density, Noise density and CCSDS standards.
    • Be familiar with analysis software such as Matlab and Simulink.
    • Have strong written and verbal communications skills, strong analytical and decision-making skills



    • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited University and a minimum of 12+ years of direct engineering experience (or MS degree with 10+ years of direct engineering experience, or a Ph.D. with 9+ years of direct engineering experience).
    • Possess knowledge of digital communications, RF system analysis, FEC coding, communications engineering and compatibility analysis. 
    • 5+ years of experience with Satellite Communications Engineering or RF Engineering.
    • 3+ years of experience in Spectrum Management Engineering
    • 3+ years of direct experience in the application of the ITU Radio Regulations and U.S. regulations.


    • Knowledge of Satellite Tool Kit (STK) and/or Visualyse is a plus




    This position requires the candidate to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.  In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a U.S. Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
