    Peraton is actively seeking a Chief Systems Engineer to join our team in Greenbelt, MD for the Space Communications Network Services contract with NASA. 


    In this role, you would be required to stay current with NASA’s system engineering directives and procedural requirements, and ensure that system engineering processes are developed, followed, and maintained.  The selected candidate will ensure systems engineering consistency across the SCNS organization, will lead engineering peer reviews, will be the lead for validating and documenting lessons learned and will maintain the SCNS Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP).


    This position will be responsible for the following:

    • Performing system engineering for a system or subsystems using methodologies and techniques appropriate to the engineering discipline.
    • Supporting the development of operations concepts, design/procurement specification, interface documentation, and test plans/procedures.
    • Providing expert advice and support during a project's entire life cycle from the specification and analysis of requirements, through the design of the hardware or software, procurement, fabrication, assembly, to integration and test to verify that system requirements have been realized.
    • Operational support of missions or systems.
    • Defining and performing trade studies.
    • Identification and solving technical problems during all phases of a project.
    • Co-chair the contract Risk Management Board and support anomaly review boards.
    • Assisting NASA organization with near-term and long-term upgrades and architectures for evolution, efficiency, unification, and modernization and/or replacement of systems and networks under the SCNS contract and the follow-on SENSE contract.
    • Maintaining the knowledge base of the state-of-the-art in technologies associated with the SCNS and future SENSE systems.
    • Defining continuous improvement opportunities
    • Defining and implementing opportunities for the unification of SCNS and SENSE processes, procedures, and techniques for SN and NEN operations, maintenance, and sustainment.
    • Developing technical reports and documentation.
    • Development of IR&D proposals and coordination of associated activities.
    • Coordination and mentoring of interns.



    • MS/MA Degree (or equivalent) in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and 18+ years of related experience.
    • Prior experience with projects involving NASA, hardware and software interfaces, and satellite ground station development and operation.
    • Some travel is required within the continental US (25%).
    • This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a secret security clearance.


    • Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and 15+ years of related work experience.
    • Strong problem solving, analytical, and presentation skills; as well as the ability to coordinate activities across multiple organizations to ensure the seamless integration of new capabilities into the NASA networks.
    • Experience with NASA's Space Network and Near-Earth Network engineering and operations.
    • Satellite ground station design, installation, and test.
    • Effective written and verbal communications skills.
    • Experience with or knowledge of optical communications systems.
    • Experience in network architecture planning, development, and management.


    This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a secret security clearance.  In order to obtain a clearance you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
