  • Overview

    This is an opportunity to work on a cutting-edge technology program responsible for flying the latest series of GOES weather satellites and distributing critical weather data to the North American continent. The ground system for these satellites is now operational flying the first two satellites in this series.  Peraton is maintaining and operating the ground system and is seeking an Integration and Test (I&T) Engineer in Suitland, MD to support the critical national weather GOES-R satellite program.

    Responsibilities

    • The position is responsible for the deployment and testing of GOES-R Ground System (GS) software builds and patches developed at the Harris Melbourne, FL Factory as well as Science Algorithm updates developed by the Product Readiness for Operations (PRO) Team located at the NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction (NCWCP) in College Park, MD. 
    • Installation – Software and supporting files and libraries are delivered by the Factory and PRO Teams and deployed using the Ansible Tower application that utilizes the RedHat Satellite Server tool.
    • Integration – The Integration, Test, and Checkout (ITCO) process, established and maintained by the Factory is executed by the engineer at one or more sites. These sites include the NOAA Satellite Operation Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, MD, the Wallops Command and Data Acquisition Station in Wallops Island, VA, and the Consolidated Backup Facility, located in Fairmont, WV. All sites are accessible at the Suitland facility.
    • Test and Checkout – GOES-R Test and Checkout Procedures are developed both at Factory and site, and rely on a wide range of technologies from simple scripting to automated test tools. The engineer is responsible for the execution of Factory-delivered regression tests, and the development, execution, troubleshooting, and documentation of site specific tests.

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    • B.S. degree in engineering or other technical studies
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience, or 8 years with 2 years of post-Secondary/AA-AS Degree, NOAA/NASA experience a plus
    • 2+ years Python experience
    • Experience supporting UNIX operating systems (shell commands and scripting), RedHat Linux and Perl experience a plus

    PREFERRED:

    • Experience developing software test plans, cases, and procedures, both manual and automated, to uncover, identify, and document software problems and their causes
    • Strong communication skills
    • Excellent teamwork
    • Able to install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and verify custom and off-the-shelf applications.
    • Participates in data collection and analysis
    • Experience developing/updating complex RedHat Linux-based scripts (i.e., sh, bash, csh, perl, etc.) as well as Web applications (html)
    • Able to document and track software defects to ensure accurate replication and compliance with software testing standards
    • IBM/Tivoli tool suite (TIP, TEPS, TBSM, Netcool/Imact, Maximo, etc.)
    • Experience with automated testing tools
    • Ability to work effectively both on a team and in an individual setting
    • Self-motivated, quick-learner, ability to anticipate problems and develop effective solutions
    • Willing to be hands-on and work at tasks outside of normal duties if needed to support management objectives
