  • Overview

    We are seeking a Senior Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer in Greenbelt, MD to work on new missions that will broaden our understanding of the earth and our universe. The selected individual will support NASA programs that integrate with state-of-the-art RF satellite communications systems and technologies, analyzing communication systems, interfaces, and dynamic links between two spacecrafts as well as spacecraft to the ground. Assignments involve a variety of analysis and systems engineering tasks, including system performance analyses using modeling and simulation techniques.


    The Senior RF Engineer will analyze communication links between prospective satellites and either the TDRS system or various ground stations, taking into account orbital dynamics and other physical effects. The selected engineer will determine if a design is feasible, and if not, what might be required to make it work.


    Responsibilities will include:

    • Perform communications technology assessments.
    • Develop system architectures and designs.
    • Perform communication analyses including link budget assessments to determine link availability statistics based on factors such as orbit dynamics, orbit simulations, atmospherics, rain rates, and other link degradation factors
    • Perform dynamic link analyses, including body coordinates and antenna theory and patterns.
    • Develop system requirements and interface documentation.
    • Develop written documentation and make presentations to peers and customer.




    • 10+ years with BS (or 8+ years with MS) in Electrical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
    • 8+ years’ experience in these areas to include:
      • Experience with RF satellite communications systems parameters and their impact on RF link performance, including use of orbit simulations.
      • RF wireless communications systems definition and analysis, including link analyses
      • Use of simulation software such as STK, MATLAB, or any other COTS or custom simulation software
      • Analytical and problem-solving techniques
      • Creating technical documents and delivering presentations


    • Familiarity with the NASA Space Network and Near-Earth Network



    This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.  In order to obtain a clearance candidate must be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
