    We are seeking an Operations Engineering Department Manager to join our team in Las Cruces, NM for the Space Communications Network Services (SCNS) contract with NASA. 


    The Operations Engineering Department (OED) manager is responsible for three functional areas. 

    1. TDRS spacecraft systems and orbital management
    2. Technical Operation and Analysis (TO&A) to include customer and ground system anomaly investigation, analysis, launch planning and support.
    3. On-site mission operations management of the Laser Communications Relay Demonstration (LCRD) and Space Test Program Satellite-6 (STPSat-6) projects.

    This position also serves as the SCNS point of contact to NASA concerning TDRS constellation management, spacecraft configuration, and state of health issues. Interacts with Senior Management and customers on significant issues needing technical guidance, redirection, and/or resolution.


    • The OED manager shall provide leadership and direction to the employees within this group. This will be based upon the organization’s policies, goals and direction from Senior Management, NASA objectives and fundamental department responsibilities. Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity to enable mission success.
    • Must ensure staffing requirements are met, evaluate employee performance, complete performance reviews, provide leadership, resolve employee performance issues and execute disciplinary actions as required. In addition, he/she must provide employee merit and promotion recommendations.
    • Shall cross pollinate engineering skills between the Spacecraft, TO&A, and the mission operations (LDRC, STPSat-6) groups to facilitate and improve troubleshooting and testing techniques, anomaly analysis as well as the generation of accurate and timely reports.
    • Reach out to other operational and engineering disciplines to develop a mutual technical interchange of ideas and principles to increase production quality, efficiency or volume.
    • Establishes unit objectives, work plans, schedules, and ensures resources are available for completion of complex technical projects. Shall ensure that all tasks are developed into appropriate plans and completed with required analysis and reports.
    • Participates in the department strategic planning process, develops long-term plans and ensures appropriate skills are available when needed.
    • Provides technical direction and instruction relative to complex problems.
    • Establishes project requirements based upon study and analysis of operational objectives and relationship with associated projects/programs.
    • Originates engineering plans, ideas, schemes and techniques, and may be required to direct the efforts of assigned personnel to achieve desired results and objectives.
    • Evaluates engineering progresses, developments and findings, to assure technical adequacy to meet operational demands and conformance with established standards and practices.
    • Conducts or oversees special studies and investigations related to project activities and recommends changes as appropriate.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.



    • BS/BA Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Mathematics, Science or related field and 12+ years of engineering experience.
    • 4+ year experience in the management and supervision of technical personnel and programs.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. 


    • MS/MA Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Mathematics, Science or related field and 10+ years of engineering experience.
    • Prior experience with spacecraft teams.
    • Experience with the NASA TDRS program, specifically satellite experience, and anomaly analysis
    • Strong problem solving, analytical, and presentation skills; as well as the ability to coordinate activities across multiple organizations. 


    This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.  In order to obtain a clearance you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
