  • Overview

    We are seeking a RF Test Engineer to join our team in Houston, Texas to support our Space Communication Network Services contract in the Electronic Systems Test Laboratory at the Johnson Space Center. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the Operations, Maintenance, Sustainment, Systems engineering, Procurement and Logistics of satellite communication systems for NASA. This position also involves engineering testing, and integration support for systems, missions, projects, and network transitions/initiatives.

     

    Responsibilities

     

    • Review requirements, test plans and procedures.
    • Perform proof of concept testing, RF and network testing in support of the International Space Station (ISS) and external customers
    • Develop and prepare Test Performance Sheets and procedures.
    • Setup test configurations including local network interfaces, RF signal levels and coordinate test personnel including Safety Officers and Quality Assurance.
    • Operate RF and data communications equipment.
    • Evaluate data and perform verification, validation, as well  proof of concept RF
    • Network testing in support of the International Space Station (ISS) and external customers​
    • Perform hardware integration and tests of spaceflight payload electronics
    • Apply modulation/demodulation techniques and new hardware configurations
    • Conduct proof of concept testing for new antenna and equipment design
    • Perform alignment, testing, problem troubleshooting, data analysis, and technical evaluation of Digital and RF modules and equipment.
    • Interface with customers and other project teams.
    • Build unique applications that control RF test equipment using modern programming techniques in languages such as Python, Java and Linux.
    • Perform preventive maintenance on various types of equipment

     

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or Math and 2+ years’ relative experience (or 8 years of experience in lieu of a degree (in a test lab environment, is preferred)).
    • 2+ years of Experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers and RF test equipment.
    • 2+ years of experience debugging products at the component level.

    PREFERRED:

    • Basic understanding of RF communications.
    • Basic understanding various modulation techniques.
    • Ability to follow detailed work instructions and/or test procedures.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent presentation skills which require frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts.
    • Must be able to work independently and in groups.
    • Proficient with MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Visio, and MS Word.

    SECURITY CLEARANCE: 

    This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.  In order to obtain a clearance you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
