  • Overview

    Project Manager (PM) in Fairfax, VA to support mission critical IT projects throughout the project lifecycle.

     

    This position will be responsible for creating the initial schedules for projects and making adjustments as needed. The PM meets with the engineer assigned to the project to review the schedule and collect details for the Build planning packages. The PM documents the technical subtasks in the schedule to the appropriate level of detail necessary. The PM serves as a project expediter, ensuring that all engineering projects remain on schedule.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with engineers to get status updates on projects, discuss and document risks and dependencies, and update the schedule in Microsoft Office Project.
    • Send schedule updates to the Sponsor with a list of assumptions, risks, and dependencies.
    • Coordinate control gates with the Sponsor.
    • May involve creating control gate briefing slides and scheduling the meeting.
    • Assist engineers with the customer’s Project Management Framework process.
    • Review draft documentation and ensure it contains all required information.
    • Coordinate documentation with the engineering team and assign due dates.
    • Enhance communication between engineers by scheduling TEMs (Technical Exchange Meetings) to discuss issues and risks.
    • Discuss with engineers individually to document risks, dependencies, and other issues and ensure these items are discussed and resolved in the TEM.
    • Assign actions to engineers and follow them to closure.
    • Work with engineers and the customer to adjust schedule baseline or project scope. Update documentation based on customer requirements and decisions. Ensure all directives from the customer are documented.
    • Attend engineering meetings as needed.
    • Update project templates as needed.

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    • Bachelors Degree plus 6 years experience in a Project Manager role, or, HS plus 8 years experience in a Project Manager role
    •  At least 2 years experience with Microsoft Project

    SECURITY CLEARANCE:

    • The candidate MUST have an active TS / SCI clearance with the ability to maintain the clearance.
