  • Overview

    We are seeking a Scientific - DOD Technical Writer/Editor in Albuquerque, NM, to support our USAF customer at Kirtland AFB.

    This position provides support to the lead project officers at the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) with planning and documenting nuclear acquisition and sustainment program meetings and activities between Air Force and Department of Energy organizations.

     

    Responsibilities

    This position will be responsible for the following:

    • Reviewing technical and project documents for content, grammar, and formatting
    1. Editing material for meeting minutes, reports, briefs, proposals, meeting announcements, security documents, and related technical and administrative publications
    2. Reviewing content for completeness, accuracy and correctness
    3. Revising documents to meet predetermined standards of style and accuracy
    4. Ensuring consistency of thought, organization, style, and formatting
    5. Conferring with subject matter experts to recommend treatment of material
    6. Ensuring content is marked with the correct classification
    • Writing and editing technical meeting minutes
    1. Writing clear and accurate meeting minutes using correct grammar
    2. Attending approximately 8 hours of meetings each week (sometimes all in one day)
    3. Documenting major decisions, action items, and project management and engineering information
    4. Incorporating feedback into documents
    5. Marking documents with correct classification and STINFO information
    • Distributing documents via several email networks
    • Writing and organizing emails through a shared customer service email box
    • Assisting with meetings (preserving conference rooms, setting up computers, running slide shows)
    • Assisting lead project officers, meeting chairs, and subject matter experts as needed

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    • A Bachelor’s degree and 2 - 5 years of technical writing and editing experience
    • 3+ years of experience formatting and editing documents using Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint
    • 3+ years of experience using Microsoft Outlook
    • 3+ years of experience marking, handling, and distributing classified information
    • Knowledge of technical, scientific, and DOD/DOE terminology

    PREFERRED:

    • Advanced technical writing, formatting, and editing skills; the ideal candidate will be able to:
    1. Write for several hours each week
    2. Produce publication-ready documents
    3. Review documents for correct grammar, formatting, and classification markings both within and across documents
    4. Properly use Microsoft Word’s editing and formatting tools
    5. Document and improve writing and editing processes
    • Willingness and ability to learn and understand complex technical information
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Strong interpersonal skills, including the abilities to be a team player and deliver excellent customer service
    • Advanced computer skills, with high proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Outlook
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple projects and deadlines
    • Knowledge of currently fielded Air Force nuclear weapon systems
    • Familiarity with DOD and DOE/NNSA structure
    • Familiarity with DOD 5000-series acquisition guidelines and the Joint DOD/DOE Phase 6.X process

    SECURITY CLEARANCE:

    This position requires the candidate to possess a current and active Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance.
