  • Overview

    We are seeking a Diesel Mechanic/ Boat Coxswain to support our Navy customer small USV Mine Hunting operations in Panama City, FL and Manama, Bahrain.  Position is home ported in Bahrain. Paid travel and pre-deployment training will be conducted at various US locations, but primarily in Panama City, FL for approximately 60 days prior to deploying to Bahrain. Position requires a one-year minimum deployment to Bahrain.

    The Boat Coxswain/Diesel Mechanic will integrate into a small team charged with operations and maintenance of deployed systems in support of US Navy mine countermeasures (MCM) missions in the U.S. Fifth Fleet Area of Responsibility. The small craft employed (11 meter RHIB) is equipped with Launch and Recovery (L&R) hardware that will also require daily maintenance and minor repairs. Assigned unit mission tasking will support data collection, test and evaluation of prototype equipment, and analysis for objectives in various harbor areas, littorals and shipping lanes. Operations will be conducted from small boats deployed from shore, embarked various Navy Units Afloat and/or from Forward Operating bases.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities will include:

    • Perform duties as a boat coxswain for an 11 Meter RHIB and CRRC.
    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of the vessel(s) diesel engine, water jet propulsion unit, and boat mechanical systems.
    • Troubleshoots mechanical problems to determine route cause of issue and recommends a corrective action.
    • Fills out daily reports and logs.
    • Launch and recovery of the vessels
    • Navigation and communications aboard the craft
    • Overall safe operations of the vessels   
    • Testing and maintenance to ensure equipment is in operating condition 

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    • Minimum qualifications are a High School diploma and 6+ years of directly related experience, an Associate's degree and 4 years of experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of experience. Military and technical training is highly desired and may be substituted for a degree.
    • Military or civilian training as a diesel mechanic with two years of demonstrated experience with air conditioning and electrical systems
    • Physical within the last 12 months due to possible remote operations
    • Valid US Driver’s License

    PREFERRED:

    • Experience as a coxswain with boat coxswain/captain qualifications obtained through military or civilian sources.
    • Maritime operations experience. Small boat familiarization, able to work on the water in a challenging environment, and operate independently or as part of a small team.
    • Color Vision
    • In depth knowledge of COLREGS

    SECURITY CLEARANCE: This position requires the candidate to already have a current Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance.
