  • Overview

    Peraton is the Prime Contractor on the NASA Space Communication Network Services (SCNS) Contract; responsible for the Operations, Maintenance, Sustainment and Systems engineering of satellite communication systems for NASA.  We are seeking a Satellite Systems Engineer to join an established team responsible for monitoring and interpreting NASA Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) telemetry, and making decisions to optimize the health and longevity of the TDRS fleet.  This position is on-site at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, Maryland.

    Responsibilities

    This position will be responsible for the following:

    • Monitor, process and interpret real-time and archived satellite telemetry data
    • Develop and execute automated programs (e.g., Python scripts; MatLab) for data reduction of large satellite telemetry data sets
    • Generate plots, graphs and other visual aids to clearly identify trends in select telemetry parameters
    • Integrate trend data into chart packages (e.g., PowerPoint) to explain trends
    • Theorize possible explanations for trends, and potential corrective actions to resolve degraded performance
    • Participate as part of team to explore the application of machine learning techniques for automatically identifying trends and anomalous system performance
    • Participate in weekly meetings and other technical forums
    • Minimal travel (less than 5%) is anticipated with this position.

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering
    • 3+ years of experience in a technical field related to satellite operations.
    • 1+ years of familiarity and understanding of basic satellite subsystems (thermal, power, attitude/orbit control, communications/antennas, TT&C, etc.)
    • 2+ years of proficient programming skills (e.g., Python, MatLab) that can be leveraged immediately for satellite telemetry data reduction and trending.
    • 2+ years of experience using MatLab, which will be applied as the basis for artificial intelligence / machine learning initiatives.
    • 2+ years of proficieint MS Office (Excel / PowerPoint) skills that can be leveraged to compile, manipulate and present trends in select telemetry parameters.

    PREFERRED:

    • Graduate degree or currently enrolled in grad school
    • TDRS or Boeing HS601 satellite bus experience or familiarity

    The applicant must have, or be able to attain a SECRET security clearance.  Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.
