  • Overview

    The Accounts Payable Specialist will manage the processing of Accounts Payable and related financial transactions described below. This role is part of a team that ensures all entries are accurate and up-to-date to ensure that vendors are paid within established time limits.  The Accounts Payable Accountant will be a self-starter, detail oriented, ability to think ahead, motivated, with prompt follow-up, ability to think quickly on feet, and is able to adjust in a fast-paced environment.

    Responsibilities

    • Match purchase orders to invoices and process vouchers in accordance with policy and process
    • Review, code and process check requests / non-PO, in an accurate and timely manner
    • Reconcile processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances
    • Ensures that proper documentation exists (i.e., authorized signatures, calculations, supporting backups), prior to processing vouchers and payments in accordance to accepted accounting practices
    • Review all documents for accuracy and completeness, including proper documentation and approval prior to payment
    • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices.
    • Process and distribute A/P checks
    • Identify discrepancies and resolve billing issues and enforce AP procedures
    • Ability to handle AP inquiries and follow through to completion
    • Assist in monthly and annual closings and accounts reconciliation
    • Assist with year-end tax reporting as needed
    • Assist with P-Card administration and resolve billing issue with bank
    • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

    • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities

    Qualifications

     

    REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor Degree in Accounting / Finance or related field plus 2 years of related experience
    • 2 years experience using a major accounting payable system e.g Deltek Costpoint
    • 2 years of experience doing monthly and annual closings and accounts reconciliation
    • 2 years of experience using Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel

     

    PREFERRED:

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel
    • Detail oriented and dependable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and be self-motivated, as well as complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
    • Working knowledge of Deltek Costpoint preferred, but not required
    • Experience with federal government regulations (FAR, JTR, GSA) preferred, but not required
    • Strong analytical/problem solving skills
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service in a fast-paced environment
    • Able to work extended hours on an as-needed basis
    • Able to work within a fast-paced team environment
