  • Overview

    We are seeking an I & T Team Software Engineer/Test Engineer in Suitland, MD to support the critical national weather GOES-R satellite program.

    Responsibilities

    • Installation – Where practical, software libraries are delivered from the Harris Factory located in Melbourne, FL via RPM Package Manager and deployed by the engineer using RedHat Satellite Server. For some COTS packages the engineer will rely on instructions from the vendor
    • Integration – The ITCO process, established and maintained by the Factory is executed by the engineer at one or more sites, these sites include the NOAA Satellite Operation Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, MD, the Wallops Command and Data Acquisition Station in Wallops Island, VA, and the Consolidated Backup Facility, located in Fairmont, WV. All sites are accessible at the Suitland facility.           Test and Checkout – GOES-R
    • Test and Checkout Procedures are developed both at Factory and site, and rely on a wide range of technologies from simple scripting to automated test tools. The engineer is responsible for the execution of Factory-delivered regression tests, and the development, execution, troubleshooting, and documentation of site specific tests.
    • Supports the early integration, testing, troubleshooting, deployment, and documentation of proposed updates to Science Algorithms from the user community.
    • Supports the development, execution and update of the GS System Operations Procedures 
    • Some off hours and off site work may be required
    • Supports the GOES-R Sustainment function with the Installation, Integration, Test, and Checkout (ITCO) of software deployments including single and multi-element builds and patches. Software elements include COTS packages, their configurations and updates, in-house applications and supporting libraries, as well as the programs, known as Science Algorithms, developed by subcontractors.

     

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED: 

    • 7+ yrs supporting satellite data processing algorithms and applications, NOAA/NASA experience a plus.
    • 7+ yrs supporting operational systems, weather satellite data systems a plus.
    • Familiarity and experience with tools and script-based software test development and execution.
    • Experience in installation, integration, configuration, licensing, patching, and maintenance of COTS Software applications supporting data processing systems at multiple sites.
    • Strong working knowledge of systems monitoring, and COTS software applications performing automated system discovery.
    • Strong interpersonal and excellent teamwork skills.
    • A self-motivated, task-oriented, and creative individual with the ability to solve problems.
    • Ability to present and explain technical information to diverse types of audiences (management, users, vendors, and technical staff) in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding.

    PREFERRED: 

    • Systems: RHEL UNIX, shell programming (sh/bsh/bash)
    • Scripting: Perl/Python
    • Programming Languages: C, C++, Java
    • CM Tools – Rational ClearCase, ClearQuest
    • Monitoring and Control: Tivoli Suite (TIP, TCP, TBSM, TEPS, Netcool/Impact, TEPS, ITM)
    • Additional Tools – Oracle DB/WebLogic Application Server/Coherence, RedHat Satellite Server

    SECURITY CLEARANCE:

     

    This position requires the candidate to obtain and maintain a Public Trust/High Risk security clearance.  In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a U.S. Citizen and show proof of citizenship and undergo a personal background check.
