    We are seeking an Aerospace, Nuclear, or Mechanical Engineer or Physicist to support the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center ICBM Systems Directorate, Airborne Launch Control System Replacement (ALCS-R) Program at Hill Air Force Base, UT.  The ALCS-R program is a Command and Control System which provides ICBM launch commands to Launch Facilities in wartime scenarios. This position is currently pending contract award, anticipated mid to late October 2018.



    The Nuclear Surety SME will be responsible for integrating nuclear surety requirements into the ICBM system engineering process. These requirements contribute to the security, safety, and reliability of nuclear weapons and to the assurance that there will be no nuclear weapon accidents, incidents, unauthorized weapon detonations, or degradation in performance at the target. 


    The candidate will support the ICBM Systems Directorate in maintaining its nuclear weapon system surety program in accordance with DoD and Air Force requirements. The SME will assist in tailoring Air Force nuclear surety policies for applicability to new or modified ICBM and ALCS hardware and software components; subsystems and systems; support equipment; ICBM facilities; special test and maintenance programs. Specific responsibilities include the following:

    • Provide technical expertise for the directorate in general nuclear surety assignments concerning ICBM warheads;
    • Assist in maintaining the nuclear certification program and preserving the nuclear certification of Minuteman III. 
    • Assist the ALCS-R Program Manager with acquisition program logistics activities, including planning and coordinating the nuclear certification processes associated with the ALCS-R system.
    • Review and document items affected by nuclear hardness and nuclear surety



    • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Physics, and 10+ years of related experience; a MS degree and 8 years of related experience, or a PhD and 5+ years of related experience. An advanced degree is desired and candidates with an advanced degree will be given preference.
    • At least five years progressive responsibility in providing technical leadership.
    • Experience with the DoD acquisition processes and documentation requirements.
    • Nuclear surety program experience, and the policies and requirements mandated by the DoD and the Air Force.  Experience with nuclear hardness and surety assessment and documentation. 
    • Experience with nuclear certification programs and associated engineering, design, and test validation and verification criteria.
    • Proficient with traditional engineering software, including Solid works 3D CAD, Cameo Systems Modeler, and Primavera, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).


    • Experience with ICBM or SLBM operations, maintenance, sustainment, and operations research/systems engineering.  Preference will be given to those with nuclear command, control, and communications experience.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to take initiative and manage detailed tasks.
    • Ability to work independently as a SME and on a team.



    This position requires the candidate to have a current active Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance. In order to obtain a security clearance, you must be a US citizen and provide proof of citizenship.
