Responsibilities

Overall Assignment Description:

Mid-level Configuration Managers conduct configuration and change management activities at the enterprise, program, project, and segment levels for systems, services, and capabilities developed using traditional and Agile methodologies. They support configuration control throughout the system and software development lifecycle, maintain configuration baselines, ensure approved changes are accurately incorporated, and support the continued modernization and improvement of configuration management processes and tools.

 

Duties may include:

  • Oversees Quality Assurance (QA) of all Requests for Change (RFCs) and similar change documentation throughout all stages of the system and software development lifecycle.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of configuration baselines and configuration control procedures.
  • Conducts change and configuration management at the enterprise, program, project, and segment levels for systems, services, and capabilities developed using traditional and Agile methods.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities to improve configuration management processes and tools to execute CM activities in a more Agile and efficient manner.
  • Leads and supports configuration change tracking and documentation control, including:
    • Concepts of Operations (CONOPS)
    • Requirements identification and documentation
    • Architecture artifacts
    • Preliminary and detailed system definitions
    • Systems and application interfaces, including point-to-point interfaces and APIs
    • System design review documentation
    • Performance monitoring tools
    • Production software
  • Reviews and publishes updated configuration items resulting from approved RFCs.
  • Ensures approved changes are accurately incorporated into configuration-controlled items.
  • Ensures current versions are updated appropriately to maintain baseline integrity.
  • Coordinates and resolves questions with responsible program personnel.
  • Reviews and posts Request for Change (RFC) materials within the Baseline Management System (BMS)/NGA Configuration Management Library.
  • Participates in extensive team peer reviews prior to release.
  • Performs basic security reviews to ensure compliance with applicable community marking guidance and system accreditation requirements.
  • Ensures accurate and timely posting of configuration-controlled documentation.
  • Reviews and posts Mission Partner (MP)-generated RFCs and supporting documentation.
  • Performs basic security reviews of Mission Partner documentation and coordinates findings or required corrections with MP Configuration Management personnel and document originators prior to posting.
  • Coordinates and tracks Point of Contact (POC) updates for configuration items, programs, and stakeholder groups entering updates into BMS, a ServiceNow-based Configuration Management tool.
  • Assists with updates to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), forms/templates, and training materials as configuration management processes evolve and modernize.

Location: This position is 100% onsite in Chantilly, Virginia. Remote or hybrid work is not available.

Required: 2 years with BS/BA; 0 years with MS/MA; 6 years with no degree

  • TS/SCI clearance adjudication or ability to obtain SCI and pass a poly
  • Experience supporting configuration management, change management, documentation control, or related technical processes.
  • Ability to develop and use complex concepts and processes.
  • Experience conducting root-cause problem analysis.
  • Ability to perform self-guided individual work and operate as a proactive team member.
  • Ability to serve as a task lead when required.
  • Ability to guide and support Junior-level personnel.
  • Ability to work independently, requiring guidance primarily when addressing new, uncertain, undefined, or undeveloped tasks.
  • Strong understanding of requirements and requirements documentation.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Desired:

  • Experience working with Baseline Management Systems (BMS) or other configuration management repositories.
  • Experience reviewing and processing Requests for Change (RFCs).
  • Experience supporting configuration management activities in both traditional and Agile development environments.
  • Experience maintaining configuration baselines and ensuring baseline integrity.
  • Experience with document control, peer review, and configuration item publication processes.
  • Experience supporting or updating SOPs, forms, templates, and training materials.
  • Experience working within NGA, the Intelligence Community (IC), DoD, or similar mission environments.
  • Experience working with ServiceNow-based configuration management tools.

Target Salary Range

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
