Spring & Summer 2027 Software Engineering Co-op

Peraton is seeking Spring & Summer 2027 Software Engineering Co-ops to support the County of San Diego Contract from January 2027 through August 2027.

 

As Software Engineering Co-ops students will build and prototype software that helps County departments work faster, using modern AI tools and AWS cloud services. You'll contribute code, test ideas quickly through rapid prototyping, and see your work move from concept to use in a live public-sector environment.

 

Peraton is the County of San Diego's IT and telecommunications partner, supporting the technology that County departments rely on to serve more than 3 million residents, from public health and social services to public safety and libraries. As a intern/co-op on the CoSD program, you'll work alongside Peraton professionals on real projects that modernize County services, including emerging work applying AI to how software is designed, built, and delivered.

 

Co-op structure: 40 hours/week throughout the duration of the co-op, with a hybrid work arrangement based in San Diego, CA.

Required Qualifications

• US Citizenship
• HS Diploma and some advanced level training.
• You are a current undergrad or graduate student and have completed progress or pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or related field
• Coursework or project experience programming in Python or Java
• Understanding of object-oriented programming and version control (Git)

 

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with .NET/C#
• Exposure to AWS services (Bedrock, CodeCommit, Lambda) or other cloud platforms
• Experience building with generative AI APIs (e.g., Claude) or AI coding tools (e.g., Kiro)
• Familiarity with JIRA or ServiceNow
• Hackathon, personal, or open-source projects demonstrating rapid prototyping

The rate / range per hour below represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

$28–38/hr
