Software Development Manager

Peraton is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead software engineering efforts, deliver AI-enabled capabilities on data center and high-performance computing infrastructure in support of mission operations.

 

Responsibilities:

 

The Software Development Manager leads a team of software engineers through the full development lifecycle, balancing hands-on technical leadership with people management, delivery ownership, and customer engagement in a classified environment.

 

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development
• Assign work, manage capacity, and allocate resources across competing priorities
• Establish and enforce engineering standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and peer review

Technical Delivery

• Own delivery of software releases against program schedules, working with product owners and program management to define scope and commitments
• Provide architectural direction and technical guidance; participate in design reviews and remain conversant in the codebase
• Drive CI/CD practices, automated testing, and secure development lifecycle activities
• Oversee integration of software with AI/ML pipelines and HPC or data center infrastructure
• Identify and manage technical risk, dependencies, and escalations

Program and Compliance

• Coordinate with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and engineering teams on system accreditation, patching, and incident response
• Ensure development practices comply with applicable security policies and accreditation requirements (RMF, NIST 800-53)
• Prepare technical documentation, status reporting, and briefings for program leadership and the government customer
• Support estimation, staffing plans, and input to program planning

 

Required Qualifications:

• 10 years of experience, may have supervisory or lead experience
• Active TS/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain a polygraph
• Demonstrated experience delivering production software through the full development lifecycle
• Proficiency in one or more modern languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Go
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control, containerization, and automated testing
• Experience working in Agile or Scrum delivery environments
• Experience supporting classified or restricted-access systems
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including briefing technical content to non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Experience delivering AI/ML-enabled capabilities or supporting data-intensive and HPC environments
• Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS GovCloud or Azure Government
• Experience with Kubernetes, microservices architecture, or infrastructure-as-code
• Working knowledge of RMF and NIST 800-53 as applied to software systems
• DoD 8570/8140-compliant certification (e.g., Security+) or ability to obtain

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
