Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Salesforce Architect & Technical Development Lead to serve as the Systems Architect supporting the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA). Reporting into the business integration office, this role drives both near-term delivery and long-range platform strategy across the VA's SaaS and PaaS portfolio. The architect will partner with technical leads across Salesforce, Microsoft Power Platform (Dynamics), Pega, ServiceNow, and other solution delivery platforms. The immediate priority is a hands-on Salesforce Design Architect and Development Team Lead who can guide the team through the most time-sensitive workstreams and deliver measurable outcomes for VA stakeholders.

This position will be 100% Remote.

What you'll do:

  • Lead architecture and delivery in partnership with VA's Digital Transformation Center, Chief Production Office, and other VA stakeholders, incorporating all relevant standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures governing configuration of the VA's SaaS and PaaS solutions.
  • Own the technical vision for the platform: define a target-state architecture that favors declarative and out-of-the-box capability first, and apply programmatic solutions (Apex, LWC, integrations) only where configuration cannot meet the requirement.
  • Ensure all team members work exclusively within DTC-provisioned sandboxes across the VA's SaaS and PaaS environments to build, test, and validate functionality before promotion.
  • Deliver capability through agile, configuration-first sprints grounded in Human-Centered Design (HCD), SaaS/PaaS configuration, and data-driven feedback loops.
  • Establish and enforce a modern Salesforce DevOps practice, including source-driven development, version control (Git), automated CI/CD pipelines, sandbox seeding/refresh strategy, and environment management aligned to VA release governance.
  • Validate technical designs against enterprise engineering and data-architecture requirements; identify and resolve risks, dependencies, and integration gaps before configuration begins.
  • Capture and document requirements for new features, enhancements, and full release packages spanning configuration, development, integration, quality assurance, and test automation.
  • Guide the team's adoption of Agentforce and AI-driven capabilities—designing agent topics, actions, and guardrails, and grounding agents in trusted VA data—while ensuring alignment with federal AI, privacy, and security policy.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point and mentor for developers and admins, conducting design and code reviews and upholding platform health, technical debt reduction, and org governance.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Establish the detailed system architecture, including system schematics, performance-based descriptions of systems and subsystems, and the key interfaces between them.
  • Support VA future-state planning alongside the VA Project Team and VA support organizations; map current business processes to out-of-the-box SaaS/PaaS capabilities to maximize configuration and minimize custom development.
  • Document the object/data model, including all relationships across existing and new objects, and maintain it as a living architectural artifact.
  • Produce the CRUD (create, read, update, delete) matrix for each object and field across all user personas, along with record- and field-level security requirements.
  • Define technical specifications for automation and UI, including Flow (screen, record-triggered, and scheduled flows), Apex triggers and classes, Lightning Web Components, Experience Cloud pages, page layouts and Dynamic Forms, report types, Data Cloud / CRM Analytics data flows, and batch/asynchronous jobs.
  • Design and document integration patterns (REST/SOAP APIs, platform events, MuleSoft or equivalent middleware) connecting Salesforce to VA systems of record and external services.
  • Document exception approvals for any customization—including Apex, custom UI, and new profiles/permission sets—consistent with VA Development Standards, and drive the team toward permission-set-based access models.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BS/BA with 12 years of experience, Master's with 10 years, or PhD with 7.
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to Obtain and Maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Demonstrated Salesforce integration experience across API-based and middleware-driven patterns.
  • Hands-on Agentforce experience designing and deploying agentic capabilities.
  • Experience with Salesforce DevOps tooling and source-driven development (e.g., Salesforce DevOps Center, Gearset, Copado, or equivalent).
  • Experience with SaaS/PaaS integrations across platforms (Salesforce, Pega, Microsoft Power Platform, ServiceNow, etc.).
  • Proven delivery of technical solutions using a Human-Centered Design approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Salesforce architect or developer certifications preferred.
  • Experience applying Agile SAFe methods in a government environment; familiarity with Salesforce Accelerator, Jira, and similar tooling preferred.
  • Experience with Data Cloud and/or CRM Analytics preferred.
