Responsibilities

 

Peraton is seeking a Engine Performance and Operability Engineer for a full time position to support installed and un-installed engine performance and operability analysis and reporting, as well as providing engine performance and operability programmatic support within the Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC), Air Systems Group (ASG), Propulsion and Power (P&P) organization. This is a 100% remote support position.

 

What you will do:

The Engine Performance and Operability Engineer will:

  • Participate in aircraft platform and/or engine team meetings and/or critical project milestone events impacting the engine performance and operability technical sub-domain
  • Ensure projects related to engine performance and operability meet expectations, are delivered on time, and are in alignment with team Engine Management Plan goals.
  • Provide timely, accurate and clear performance technical assessments detailing relevant issues, root cause status, program risks and recommended means to mitigate/overcome obstacles. Assessments show evidence of technical understanding and are provided to the appropriate stakeholders
  • Effectively execute installed or un-installed engine performance models, assess data, and provide timely and accurate performance model data reports per customer requirements using appropriate standard work processes.
  • Effectively communicate, present, and write content that is relevant to on-going issues and provide technical recommendations to team leaders, SE, BDE, and the branch manager that enable successful forward progress of assigned project areas.

Qualifications

Minimum of 16 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 14 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 10 years with Ph.D.

 

What you will need: 

  • A minimum requirement of a BS degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and 16 years experience with aircraft or weapon system gas turbine engine performance and/or operability. An advanced degree is preferred; MS and/or PhD
  • Experience with gas turbine engine design and operation; including the usage of performance models for both execution and assessment
  • Basic level programming skills in one or more of the following: NPSS, C++, python, MATLAB
  • Ability to conduct an engine performance and operability technical assessment, including the specification of airworthiness products and processes
  • Understand engine operability, control, and transient performance assessment
  • Understand engine ground and altitude test performance assessment, and flight test performance principles
  • Must have the ability to work well with others, develop and justify a technical position, present results to a team and communicate effectively with a customer
  • Secret security clearance

Desired (But not required):

  • Experience in the creation and development of in-house gas turbine engine performance models
  • Intermediate level programming skills in NPSS, C++, python, MATLAB
  • Previous experience in engine operability analysis and the engine stability assessment process.
  • Experience in performance assessment of inlets and exhaust nozzles, propeller performance, and wind tunnel testing
  • Train and mentor ESDP and junior engineers
  • Must write and speak well in English, and be proficient with MS office tools to communicate ideas effectively
  • Must be energetic, creative and take initiative; able to work well independently or as part of a team

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
