Responsibilities

The team is seeking a Senior Level Cloud Software Engineer. This is a position on a large, complex product development team. The candidate will have a primary focus of supporting all aspects of agile software design and development for products that are integrated into systems on large scale compute clusters. Duties include design & development of new capabilities, testing, optimization & performance tuning, and operation & sustainment functions.

 

As a Senior Cloud Software Engineer, you are expected to perform requirements analysis, software design, development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution at a high level of proficiency and independence. You are expected to communicate directions and provide guidance to more junior programmer/analysts, as required. Cloud Software Engineers must be adept at developing solutions which integrated or extended COTS or GOTS products. Additionally, Cloud Software Engineers may be responsible for evaluating project needs, determining tasks and durations, creating/executing test cases, creating SOPs and Documentation, Code Reviews, and generating and reviewing designs for technical accuracy, completeness.

 

Core Required Competencies and Skills:

  • Strong experience with Java Programming
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Ansible and Puppet
  • Expertise in Continuous Integration, Deployment, Testing and Monitoring practices
  • Java programming for distributed systems, with experience in networking and multi-threading
  • Agile development experience with source code management practices and tools
  • Well-grounded in Linux fundamentals and knowledge in at least one scripting language (e.g. Python, Ruby, Perl, etc.)
  • Familiarity with microservices software development technique and container-orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with Containerization (e.g. Docker)
  • Rotating Tier III On-Call Support & Emergency Surge Support may be required
  • Work is in the customer office, regular/guaranteed telework is not generally supported at this time. (However, there are some tasks or research projects available ad hoc for teleworking by qualified team members.)

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED and 8 years of experience in software development/engineering, including requirements analysis, development, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Note: Relevant education may be substituted for the required experience as follows: 
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field = 2 years of experience
    • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field = 4 years of experience
  • Experience developing in high-level languages such as Java, C, or C++.
  • Experience working in UNIX/Linux (RedHat-based) environments.
  • Experience in software integration and testing, including test plan and script development.
  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph is required.
  • Required Certification (one of the following):
    • AWS Certified Developer – Associate
    • AWS DevOps Engineer – Professional
    • AWS Certified Machine Learning - Associate
    • AWS Certified Machine Learning - Specialty
    • Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Apache Open-Source Hadoop
  • Apache Open Source Accumulo
  • Apache Open Source NiFi
  • MongoDB
  • Message Brokers (e.g. ActiveMQ)
  • Spring Framework, Python, and Bash
  • Knowledge of security and compliance best practices
  • AWS Cloud experience, hybrid cloud environments, and similar commercial cloud technologies

Target Salary Range

$176,000 - $282,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
