Responsibilities

We are seeking an Expert Systems Engineer to provide strategic technical leadership and systems engineering expertise across complex geospatial intelligence programs supporting the National System of Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG), Allied System of Geospatial-Intelligence (ASG), and Federal Agency partners.

In this role, you will support Government leadership in directing enterprise-level systems engineering efforts across the full systems engineering lifecycle, ensuring the delivery of timely, accurate, and mission-critical GEOINT capabilities. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in large-scale acquisitions, cross-agency integration, and emerging technologies, while providing technical oversight and mentorship to engineering teams across multiple organizations.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Engineering Leadership

  • Assist the Government in directing and overseeing systems engineering activities across NSG, ASG, and Federal Agencies, including:
    • Requirements engineering
    • Solutions engineering
    • Scheduling
    • Reliability and resiliency engineering
    • Services development
    • Systems integration
    • Test and evaluation
    • Maintainability
    • Systems analysis
  • Oversee and coordinate the efforts of Senior-, Mid-, and Junior-level contractor Systems Engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership across complex, enterprise-scale engineering initiatives.

Requirements Engineering & Architecture

  • Support the planning, analysis, and traceability of user requirements, system architectures, operational procedures, and technical challenges to automate or improve existing systems.
  • Evaluate cloud service capabilities, workflows, and scheduling limitations to support mission objectives.
  • Assist the Government in capturing and translating mission and customer needs into system and capability requirements and technical solutions.
  • Support the analysis and allocation of requirements to system architecture components and executing programs.

Solution Development & Integration

  • Advise the Government on solution design changes driven by evolving mission requirements and emerging technologies.
  • Assist in performing systems integration activities across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid infrastructures.
  • Support the engineering and deployment of innovative technologies and architectures to enhance mission capabilities.

Engineering Analysis & Decision Support

  • Assist in leading and conducting:
    • Analysis of Alternatives (AoAs)
    • Courses of Action (CoAs)
    • Trade Studies
    • Engineering Assessments
  • Provide expert technical recommendations to support acquisition, architecture, and engineering decisions.

Strategic Planning & Advisory Support

  • Assist the Government in:
    • Strategic technical planning
    • Project management
    • Performance engineering
    • Risk management
    • Interface design
  • Provide expert guidance in aligning organizational vision, strategy, mission needs, requirements, processes, and capability development initiatives.

Enterprise Integration

  • Operate at the enterprise level, integrating multiple Major System Acquisitions across:
    • Organizational boundaries
    • Agency boundaries
    • Departmental boundaries
    • Governmental and national boundaries
  • Support interoperability and mission integration across the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense enterprise.

Preferred Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a recognized systems engineering expert with extensive experience leading enterprise-level GEOINT initiatives across the Intelligence Community. They possess the strategic vision, technical depth, and leadership capabilities necessary to drive large-scale acquisitions, integrate emerging technologies, and deliver resilient mission solutions across highly complex and interconnected environments.

 

Location: This position is fully onsite in either Chantilly or Springfield, VA

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Systems Engineering or a related technical or scientific discipline, including:

    • Engineering
    • Physics
    • Mathematics
    • Operations Research
    • Engineering Management
    • Computer Science
    • Information Technology
    • Management Information Systems
    • Other related STEM degree programs

    Equivalent experience may be substituted for education requirements as follows:

    • Four (4) additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree; or
    • Two (2) additional years of relevant experience with a non-STEM degree.
  • 18+ years of experience supporting government or industry programs in one or more of the following areas:
    • DoD/IC Acquisition Processes
    • Requirements Processes
    • Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution System (PPBES)
    • Systems engineering for large, complex Systems-of-Systems environments
    • Service-Oriented Architecture environments operating in cloud, on-premises, or hybrid infrastructures
  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience with the systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current NSG, ASG, and NRO enterprises.
  • Previous experience supporting NGA and/or NSG/ASG programs or projects.
  • Previous Intelligence Community (IC) or Department of Defense (DoD) program experience.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance adjudication, or the ability to obtain SCI eligibility and successfully pass a polygraph.

    • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
  • Membership or leadership participation in professional organizations such as:
    • ACSM
    • ASCE
    • ASPRS
    • OGC
    • SAREM
    • USGIF
  • Extensive experience supporting geospatial intelligence programs and missions.
  • Experience engineering solutions leveraging:
    • Cloud-based technologies
    • Structured and unstructured Big Data environments
    • Automation technologies
    • Augmentation technologies
    • Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following disciplines:
    • Photogrammetry
    • Remote Sensing
    • Image Science
    • Information Sciences
    • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
    • Geomatics
    • Related GEOINT disciplines

Target Salary Range

$146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
