Responsibilities

Position Summary

 

We are seeking a highly skilled VDI Subject Matter Expert to manage and maintain our cloud-based Citrix Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment. This role is responsible for the VDI infrastructure architecture, optimizing the end user experience, ensuring the availability, performance, and security of virtual desktops, managing operating system images, and supporting installed applications. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with Citrix Virtual Desktop and Windows OS image creation and management.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Architecture

  • Lead and evolve the enterprise VDI architecture, ensuring scalability, resilience, and alignment with long-term organizational strategy.
  • Architect and implement advanced enhancements that significantly improve performance, reliability, and end-user experience.
  • Define and execute modernization strategies to meet emerging technology requirements and mission needs.

Day-to-Day Administration

  • Oversee operational integrity of the VDI ecosystem, ensuring proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and continuous service optimization.
  • Provide technical leadership in troubleshooting and resolving VDI-related issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Image and Application Management
  • Lead enterprise-scale Windows OS image engineering, defining standards, lifecycle processes, and integration models for the VDI platform.
  • Oversee application delivery strategies, including packaging, performance validation, and compatibility engineering.

Performance and Availability

  • Ensure enterprise-grade availability through advanced tuning, load distribution, and resource governance methodologies.
  • Develop and enforce best practices for system optimization, including predictive scaling and performance analytics.

Security and Compliance

  • Oversee secure configuration baselines, patch governance, and image hardening processes for the VDI platform.
  • Ensure strict compliance with enterprise cybersecurity frameworks, audits, and risk mitigation requirements.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Produce high-quality architectural documentation, operational procedures, and engineering standards.
  • Prepare executive-level reporting on system performance, trends, capacity, and incident root-cause analysis.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 16 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 14 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 10 years with Ph.D. 20 years with a HS Diploma
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience designing, engineering, and administering Citrix Virtual Desktop environments.
  • Expert-level background in Windows OS image creation and lifecycle management.

Technical Skills

  • Master-level experience with Citrix Cloud and related technologies (Citrix Studio, Director, etc.).
  • Deep architectural knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and networking fundamentals.
  • Advanced proficiency with enterprise monitoring suites, analytics-driven optimization, and capacity modeling.

Soft Skills

  • Exceptional analytical and strategic problem-solving capabilities with a focus on mission outcomes.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical topics to executives and stakeholders.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert-level PowerShell automation experience, including CI/CD-driven image and application automation.
  • Strong familiarity with ITIL, service governance, and enterprise change management frameworks.
  • Experience architecting hybrid and multi-cloud VDI workloads across Azure, AWS, and on-prem platforms.

Target Salary Range

$146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
