Next-Gen Technology Engineer - Cloud Architecture & Modernization

Within Peraton's Space and Mission Solutions sector, there is an immediate need for a Cloud Architecture & Modernization emergent technologist to lead cloud transformation initiatives across our US Intelligence and Space Community portfolio. This is a full-time, on-site position based at Peraton locations in Reston, Virginia, with flexibility to travel to customer sites for classified and non-classified solution activities.

As a Next-Gen Technology Engineer (NTE), reporting directly to the Sector CTO, you will be the authoritative voice on cloud strategy, guiding customers from legacy on-premises environments to modern cloud and hybrid architectures. You will design secure, optimized cloud solutions that leverage the full spectrum of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS capabilities while ensuring compliance with stringent IC and DoD security requirements. Your expertise in data management, optimization, and AI-enabled data fusion will differentiate our solutions in a competitive landscape.

This role is suited for professionals with a proven track record of successful cloud transformations in defense and intelligence environments. You bring both the technical depth to architect complex solutions and the mission understanding to align technology investments with mission outcomes and customer priorities.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the design of enterprise cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP) for government proposals, including hybrid and multi-cloud solutions that meet IC and DoD security requirements
  • Develop comprehensive cloud migration strategies and roadmaps for customers transitioning from legacy on-premises infrastructure to cloud-native or hybrid environments
  • Architect solutions that leverage cloud capabilities for data optimization, management, and—where customer readiness permits—AI-enabled data fusion and analytics
  • Ensure all cloud solutions meet FedRAMP, IL4/IL5/IL6, and customer-specific security and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate with business development, capture teams, and program managers to develop winning technical strategies that align cloud capabilities with customer mission objectives
  • Infuse existing programs with cloud modernization opportunities, working within operational constraints to identify and implement optimization initiatives
  • Mentor, train, and/or educate technical staff on cloud architecture best practices, security frameworks, and emerging cloud capabilities, ensuring organizational knowledge growth
  • Articulate cloud solutions, migration strategies, and ROI to senior leadership, customers, and governance review boards
  • Maintain expertise in evolving cloud services, security frameworks, and government cloud adoption trends

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8+ years of experience with a BS/BA in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field; OR 6+ years with MS/MA in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field; OR 3+ years with PhD in a related field.
  • This position requires the candidate to possess a minimum of Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI. The candidate must maintain the clearance.
  • Professional cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or GCP Professional Cloud Architect
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing cloud solutions within IC, DoD, or Space community environments with appropriate security controls
  • Proven track record of leading cloud migration initiatives—taking organizations from legacy/on-premises to cloud or hybrid architectures
  • Deep understanding of cloud security frameworks including FedRAMP, IL4/IL5/IL6 requirements, and Zero Trust architectures
  • Experience with data management, optimization, and analytics in cloud environments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with technical teams and executive leadership
  • Full-time on-site availability with ability to collaborate at senior levels and lead cross-functional solution teams

 Desired Qualifications:

  • An active/current TS/SCI is highly desired
  • Direct experience supporting NRO, NGA, USSF, DIA, NASA, or NOAA missions and programs
  • Experience with AWS C2S or SC2S, Azure Government, Google Cloud for Government, or other IC-specific cloud environments
  • Knowledge of AI/ML services in cloud platforms and experience integrating AI capabilities for data fusion or analytics
  • Security-focused certifications such as CCSP, AWS Certified Security Specialty, or CISSP
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), containerization (Kubernetes, Docker), and DevSecOps pipelines
  • Familiarity with cloud cost optimization strategies and FinOps practices
  • Experience contributing to and winning large government proposals ($50M+)
