Responsibilities

Peraton Labs is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to define, integrate, and mature the technical foundations of an Agentic AI platform that enables rapid development of secure, AI-powered applications through natural language interfaces, agent builders, and mission-level workflow orchestration.

This role will help bridge product vision, user needs, platform architecture, software implementation, and operational deployment. The ideal candidate will bring strong systems engineering experience with the ability to define requirements, decompose complex problems, align multi-disciplinary teams, and ensure that Agentic AI capabilities are implemented as part of a coherent, scalable, and secure system.

This position is especially well suited for someone who can operate across architecture, integration, technical planning, mission workflows, and end-to-end system behavior in emerging AI-enabled environments.

Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, decompose, and manage system requirements for an Agentic AI platform spanning user interaction, orchestration, platform services, AI enablement, security, and mission integration
  • Support end-to-end system design across front-end backend, agent orchestration, data flows, access control, and supporting platform services
  • Translate product objectives and mission use cases into actionable technical requirements, interfaces, workflows, and engineering priorities
  • Develop system-level architecture views, interface definitions, integration concepts, and functional decomposition for platform capabilities
  • Partner closely with software engineers, AI/ML researchers, product stakeholders, and platform engineers to ensure technical alignment across system components
  • Analyze and define workflows involving human users, agents, models, tools, external data/services, and system guardrails
  • Help establish technical approaches for agent orchestration, context handling, tool integration, workflow management, trust boundaries, and human-in-the-loop control
  • Support technical planning for scalability, security, performance, reliability, and operational deployment
  • Identify system risks, interface dependencies, integration challenges, and mission impacts early in the development lifecycle
  • Contribute to verification and validation planning, test strategy, and evaluation criteria for complex agentic platform behavior
  • Support documentation of architecture, interfaces, requirements, CONOPS, and technical decisions
  • Help drive structured engineering practices in a rapidly evolving product and R&D environment

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, 6+ years with a Master's degree, or 3+ years with a PhD in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in systems engineering, solution architecture, platform engineering, or related technical roles
  • Strong experience defining and managing requirements, interfaces, and end-to-end system behavior for complex software or platform-based systems
  • Experience working across multi-disciplinary technical teams including software, infrastructure, security, and product stakeholders
  • Ability to decompose complex workflows and translate ambiguous goals into structured technical artifacts
  • Strong understanding of modern software systems, APIs, cloud-based platforms, distributed services, and integration patterns
  • Experience supporting architecture development, system integration, verification, and technical planning
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to create clear technical documentation and communicate across engineering and leadership teams
  • US Citizenship is required for this position

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Agentic AI, LLM-enabled systems, agent orchestration, workflow chaining, or human-in-the-loop AI systems
  • Experience defining systems for AI-enabled platforms, mission applications, decision-support systems, or workflow orchestration environments
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architecture, platform services, and modern software delivery
  • Experience with model integration, context/state management, orchestration frameworks, or trust/safety control for AI systems
  • Experience supporting product/platform development in both research-driven and delivery-oriented environments
  • Familiarity with security boundaries, access control models, auditability, and policy enforcement in shared platforms
  • Experience developing CONOPS, system context diagrams, interface control concepts, and test/validation strategies
  • Experience in regulated, mission-focused, or operationally complex environments
