Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Data Governance Specialist to join our team in the greater DMV area, supporting the Army National Guard.

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update data catalogs, business glossaries, metadata repositories, and classification tags to ensure authoritative metadata across enterprise datasets.
  • Execute routine data validation and quality checks; monitor data quality dashboards and document issues impacting accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Apply governance standards, naming conventions, reference data updates, and schema/documentation per approved policies and procedures.
  • Support stewardship processes by coordinating with data stewards, system owners, and analytics teams to clarify business rules, data lineage, and source definitions.
  • Track governance workflows, prepare meeting materials, capture minutes and action items, and maintain evidence of governance activities for auditability.
  • Produce routine governance reports, data quality summaries, and metadata status updates for program leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support compliance activities by maintaining lineage diagrams, documenting data‑handling requirements, and preserving RMF/privacy evidence as required.
  • Contribute to process improvement: refine governance documentation, update procedures, and assist adoption of governance tools and automation to improve data integrity and availability.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 2 years with BS/BA; 0 years with MS/MA; 6 years with no degree
  • Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance.

  • Candidate must meet ONE of the following:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field; OR
    • Relevant DoD/military training (example: Army Data Literacy Course); OR
    • Relevant professional certification or equivalent experience (examples: CompTIA Data+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, DAMA CDMP).
  • Required experience and skills:

    • Experience in data governance, data stewardship, data management, or related roles supporting enterprise data programs.
    • Practical experience maintaining metadata catalogs, data dictionaries, lineage, and reference data.
    • Proficiency with governance/catalog tools or platforms, and familiarity with data quality frameworks and dashboarding.
    • Strong documentation skills, attention to detail, and ability to produce audit‑quality evidence and governance reports.
    • Ability to coordinate across technical and business stakeholders to resolve data quality issues and enforce governance standards.
  • Desired:

    • Prior DoD/ARNG or large‑enterprise data governance experience.
    • Familiarity with RMF/privacy evidence needs, data classification controls, and integration of governance with analytics and security workflows.
    • Experience with automation for metadata harvesting, data quality testing, or governance workflow tooling.

Target Salary Range

$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
