Job Title: Project Coordinator / Risk Manager

Location: Herndon, VA or Bowie, MD

 

Position Overview:


The Project Coordinator / Risk Manager plays a critical role in supporting project execution by proactively identifying, analyzing, and mitigating risks that could impact cost, schedule, and technical performance. This position partners closely with project managers, technical teams, and business stakeholders to ensure risks are effectively managed throughout the project lifecycle.

In addition to risk management responsibilities, the Project Coordinator supports overall project operations through scheduling, documentation, and stakeholder communication to ensure alignment with project goals and successful delivery of contract requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks related to cost, schedule, and technical performance
  • Maintain and regularly update risk registers, including tracking mitigation and contingency plans
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies
  • Monitor compliance with established risk management plans and processes
  • Prepare and deliver risk reports and status updates to project leadership and stakeholders
  • Support project scheduling activities, including tracking milestones across multiple contract deliverables
  • Assist in monitoring project performance and identifying variances or potential issues
  • Facilitate communication between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding of risks and project objectives
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including meeting minutes, change logs, and change order processes
  • Develop and distribute technical status reports and other project artifacts as needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

 

  • 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA
  • 3–5+ years of experience in project coordination, risk management, or project controls
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and mitigating project risks in a structured environment
  • Experience managing risk registers and supporting risk management frameworks
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling and milestone tracking across multiple deliverables
  • Proven ability to translate technical information for non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience supporting administrative and project documentation (e.g., meeting minutes, change logs, status reports)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to proactively identify risks and propose solutions
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience supporting government or large-scale contract programs
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid approaches)
  • Experience with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Jira, or similar)
  • PMP, PMI-RMP, or similar certification is a plus

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
