Responsibilities

Peraton is looking a Network Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals.

 

Location: This position is remote. 

 

Day to Day Roles of Responsibilities:

 

  • Operate and maintain continuous operation of Cisco Nexus layer 2 networks. Plans, evaluates, coordinates, and performs installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data communication networks
  • Configure and deploy Cisco ISE for Network access management and Cisco NDFC for network automation and backup configurations
  • Perform STIG maintenance to secure IT systems, software and networks for Unclassified and Classified systems.
  • Understand and utilize various network protocols to include SSH, VPC, Vlan Trunking, STP and other layer 2 technologies.
  • Be familiar with DHS policies, regulations and governance in relation to IT systems
  • Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions, technical diagrams, and other documentation. Where no documentation exists, assist in developing documentation.
  • Utilize tools to monitor and assess network outages such as DX Spectrum.
  • Assist with coordination of third-party maintenance for network equipment or with vendors for third-party support
  • Willingness and availability to work outside normal business hours (evenings and weekends) as needed.
  • Provide on-call support after business hours and during weekends when required.
  • Must be able to work with general supervision and follow established procedures.
  • Follow ITIL best practices to manage tickets and processes

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or IT related field of study and 8 years of experience or a Master's degree and 6 years of experience in an IT related field of study.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DHS Public Trust clearance.
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in IT Network Engineering, focusing on the design, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise-level data communication networks.
  • 5+ years of specialized experience supporting Cisco Nexus (Layer 2) environments, including hands-on configuration of vPC, VLAN Trunking, STP, and core switching technologies.

  • Proven experience deploying and managing Cisco ISE for network access control and Cisco NDFC for network automation, orchestration, and configuration backups.

  • Demonstrated experience performing security patching, vulnerability management, and STIG remediation for both Unclassified and Classified IT systems.

  • Proficiency in utilizing enterprise monitoring tools, such as DX Spectrum, to detect, analyze, and resolve network outages and performance bottlenecks.

  • Functional knowledge of DHS policies, regulations, and governance frameworks related to IT system security and operations.

  • Ability to provide on-call support and a willingness to work outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends, to maintain mission-critical uptime.

  • Experience maintaining comprehensive network documentation, including technical diagrams, operational instructions, and SOPs.

  • Strong understanding of ITIL best practices for ticket management and service delivery processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active CCNA/CCNP preferred

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
