Responsibilities

Peraton provides engineering, facilities operations, and infrastructure modernization services at NASA Glenn Research Center through the Glenn Engineering and Research Support (GEARS) contract. The team supports both institutional facilities and specialized research infrastructure across the Glenn campus.

 

Peraton is seeking a Facilities Electrical Engineer to support engineering and design activities associated with building electrical infrastructure at NASA Glenn Research Center in Brook Park, Ohio.

 

The selected candidate will support the planning, design, modification, and maintenance of facility electrical systems serving laboratories, offices, and research support buildings. The engineer will work with NASA system managers, project managers, and facility maintenance personnel to ensure reliable operation of building power systems.

 

This role primarily supports low-voltage and utilization-level electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, and equipment connections within research and institutional facilities.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop electrical designs for facility modification and infrastructure improvement projects.
  • Support upgrades and repairs to 120V–480V electrical distribution systems within buildings.
  • Prepare electrical design drawings, specifications, and calculations. Perform load calculations and electrical equipment sizing for facility projects.
  • Support lighting system design and upgrades, including LED conversions and lighting controls.
  • Conduct field investigations, site surveys, and existing condition assessments.
  • Review contractor design submissions and construction documents for code compliance.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, structural, and controls engineers during multidisciplinary design efforts.
  • Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning activities.
  • Maintain engineering documentation including drawings, redlines, and system records.  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Five or more years experience designing and supporting construction for commercial or industrial building electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems typically ranging from 120V through 480V.
  • Familiarity with electrical design standards and applicable codes.
  • Ability to perform field inspections and engineering assessments.
  • Familiarity with NEC (NFPA 70) and other relevant electrical codes.
  • Experience using electrical design software such as AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizenship and able to obtain and maintain a NASA badge and pass background screening.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with electrical design for laboratories, industrial facilities, or research environments.
  • Proficient at performing arc flash circuit breaker coordination studies.
  • Experience using SKM or similar software to perform power system analyses.
  • Knowledge of lighting design, grounding systems, and standby power systems.
  • Experience supporting government or aerospace facilities programs.

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
