Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to design, implement, secure, and optimize enterprise cloud environments supporting mission-critical IT systems and analytics platforms in support of CBP analytics and intelligence programs. This role leads cloud architecture design and migration initiatives while ensuring performance, cost efficiency, automation, and compliance with federal security standards.

 

The ideal candidate brings strong cloud architecture expertise, hands-on migration experience, and a security-first mindset aligned with federal governance requirements.

 

Support will be provided across multiple mission locations:

  • Ashburn, VA
  • Sterling, VA
  • Washington, D.C.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Engineering & Implementation

  • Design, build, and deploy secure, scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and/or other cloud platforms.
  • Implement resilient multi-cloud and hybrid solutions aligned with federal requirements.
  • Configure networking, compute, storage, and identity services.
  • Support high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.

Cloud Migration & Modernization

  • Execute application and data migrations to cloud environments.
  • Refactor and modernize legacy systems for cloud-native architectures.
  • Perform environment assessments, dependency analysis, and post-migration optimization.
  • Troubleshoot complex migration and integration issues.

Security & Compliance Implementation

  • Implement cloud security controls in alignment with NIST, FedRAMP, and zero-trust principles.
  • Configure IAM policies, encryption, logging, and monitoring solutions.
  • Support audit readiness and vulnerability remediation efforts.
  • Partner with cybersecurity teams to ensure secure cloud operations.

Automation & DevSecOps

  • Develop Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep).
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for secure and automated deployments.
  • Implement containerization and orchestration solutions (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Promote DevSecOps best practices across development and operations teams.

Monitoring, Performance & Cost Optimization

  • Implement monitoring and observability solutions (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, etc.).
  • Optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve resource utilization.
  • Provide operational support and incident response for cloud environments.

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, and program leadership to deliver mission outcomes.
  • Document engineering solutions, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Communicate technical risks and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA. 12 years with a HS diploma/equivalent can be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering and enterprise migration initiatives.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP (compute, storage, networking, IAM).
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and scripting (Python, Bash).
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking, security architecture, and federal compliance requirements.
  • Experience planning and executing production cloud migrations.

Clearance Requirements

  • Active Top Secret Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required CBP suitability
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred.
  • Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator, Google Professional Cloud Architect).
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with migration tools (AWS Migration Hub, Azure Migrate, etc.).
  • Knowledge of cost optimization and cloud financial management practices.
  • Experience supporting federal or regulated environments.

Target Salary Range

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
