This position is responsible for administering, developing, testing, implementing, and maintaining operating systems and related software, with a specialized focus on the organization's Directory Services and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). The Systems Administrator will establish and implement standards for computer operations, ensure compatibility between hardware and software, and provide high-level technical support. The role involves managing the full lifecycle of system administration, from initial design and requirements gathering to implementation, security hardening, and post-project support.
Key Responsibilities
General System Administration:
Schedule, perform, and monitor system backups and execute data recoveries when necessary.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex software, operating system, and networking problems.
Recommend and perform hardware and software upgrades based on growth statistics and forecasts, including coordinating the transition from test to production environments.
Configure hardware such as workstations, printers, servers, and tape devices.
Schedule tasks using software support tools and scripts and provide technical support for system users.
Directory Services & Security:
Manage the Active Directory (AD) forest schema, including any extensions required for applications and third-party tools.
Establish AD Sites, Site Links, and subnet addressing; configure replication intervals and scheduling.
Build, install, configure, and maintain Domain Controllers (DCs) and Domain Name Services (DNS) within Active Directory.
Implement security hardening via vendor-specific patching, group policies, registry edits, and scripted actions.
Conduct Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) checks for Windows Server OS, DNS, Domain Controllers, and the AD Domain and Forest.
Delegate administrative privileges for the management of tools, applications, and other domain-level operations.
Planning, Documentation & Support:
Plan, design, develop, evaluate, test, and integrate the Directory Services infrastructure and PKI implementation.
Capture, translate, and document customer requirements to define system and product specifications.
Create and maintain comprehensive programmatic and technical documentation to ensure efficient planning and execution.
Manage and document system configurations and oversee all transitions into production.
Provide high-level technical support for lower-level administrators and perform post-project end-user support.
