Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to design, implement, secure, and sustain complex enterprise IT systems supporting mission‑critical operations. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong analytical and architectural skills, and the ability to influence technical direction across the organization. The ideal candidate excels at leading modernization efforts, integrating new capabilities, and mentoring junior engineers while ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of enterprise systems.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Enterprise Architecture & Systems Engineering

  • Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise‑class systems, infrastructure, and services across on‑premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
  • Lead system architecture planning, modernization initiatives, technology evaluations, and migration strategies.
  • Integrate new capabilities with existing enterprise systems while ensuring interoperability, scalability, and compliance with organizational standards.

 

Reliability, Performance & Lifecycle Management

  • Ensure system reliability, availability, and performance through proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and lifecycle management.
  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis for complex, multi‑layered system issues.
  • Support patching, STIG implementation, and audit readiness to maintain security compliance.

 

Automation & Infrastructure as Code

  • Automate system administration, configuration, and deployment tasks using scripting and IaC tools (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform, etc.).
  • Drive standardization and repeatability across infrastructure operations.

 

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with DevOps, Security, Networking, Application Development, and Cyber teams to deliver integrated, mission‑aligned solutions.
  • Review and validate enterprise IT requirements to ensure alignment with security, scalability, and operational needs.

 

Documentation, Governance & Technical Leadership

  • Develop and maintain detailed system documentation, diagrams, and operational procedures.
  • Provide technical recommendations, architecture assessments, and design artifacts for enterprise IT initiatives.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing across the organization.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 8 years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure operations, or enterprise IT roles
  • DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+)
  • Active TS/SCI clearance

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications (AWS, Azure, RHCE, VMware, CCNA/CCNP, etc.)
  • Strong expertise in Windows Server and/or Linux administration
  • Solid understanding of networking, storage, virtualization, and security fundamentals
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid architectures
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform, etc.)
  • Experience with monitoring/observability tools (Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, etc.)
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity requirements, STIGs, RMF, and zero‑trust principles

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
