Required Qualifications:
- High School level reading, writing, and analytical skills; Minimum of 1 year work technical experience in an information technology role.
- U.S. Citizenship required
- The applicant must possess and be able to apply basic mechanical skills to conduct or assist in maintenance and repair of ITS field equipment.
- Must have and maintain a valid Kentucky or Indiana operator’s license and have and maintain a good driving record.
- Able to frequently move and position objects weighing 50 pounds.
- Physical ability to modify, fabricate, and/or repair connectors, wiring, enclosures, etc., operate and perform basic maintenance on portable dynamic message sign trailers.
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions year-round.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to support emergency repairs to ITS equipment, respond to support calls as needed, and to take advantage of concurrent road closures; hours may include nights, weekends, or hours beyond a normally scheduled work shift.,
- Able to apply technologies, scientific principles, theories, and concepts,
- Ability to use basic hand tools to perform testing of devices that may be contained in various types of cabinets, turning of levers or other hardware used to securely fasten equipment doors; ability to reset various switches,
- Visual acuity to see and repair ITS equipment in the field and to check for damage to mounting hardware or system devices, including during all types of weather and during hours of darkness.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrates a proven history of working independently, taking initiative, and making decisions to impact work projects in a positive manner,
- Training and certification in maintenance and repair of traffic signals and/or certification in maintenance and repair of roadway lighting,
- Knowledgeable in fiber optic troubleshooting, repair, and use of documentation and drawings, OTDR, light meters, and mechanical and fusion splicing and materials,
- Knowledge of ITS systems and equipment including but not limited to CCTV cameras, modems, lane control systems, lighting systems, radio and network communication systems, dynamic message signs, fiber-optic communications, emergency power solutions, lowering devices, and other support systems,
- Familiarity with troubleshooting and maintenance of ITS equipment, with an emphasis on cameras, lowing devices, Dynamic Message Signs, wired and wireless radio communication systems, and network communication systems,
- Experienced in troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of ITS systems and equipment including but not limited to CCTV cameras, modems, lane control systems, lighting systems, radio and network communication systems, dynamic message signs, fiber-optic communications, emergency power solutions, lowering devices, and other support systems,
- Possesses a general knowledge of electronics and electrical wiring theory, principles, and practices,
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products,
- Ability to use various types of software,
- Knowledgeable about work zone safety,
- Ability to read and comprehend roadway and ITS system schematics, and
- Ability to read various types of blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams,
- Possesses a basic knowledge of the National Electric Code,
- Possesses a basic knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and
- Ability to cut, shape, and weld metal to fabricate basic enclosures and other items.
