Responsibilities

Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA’s Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton helps deliver the systems and services that keep our nation’s skies safe and connected.

We’re looking for innovative professionals who thrive in mission-critical environments and are passionate about shaping the future of air traffic management. This is your chance to make an impact on one of the world’s most vital transportation infrastructures, working alongside leaders in aviation, engineering, data science, and systems integration.

At Peraton, you won’t just support the mission — you’ll define it.

Join a team dedicated to protecting the safety and integrity of U.S. air travel. Peraton is seeking an experienced Tools Engineer to support the design, configuration, integration, and sustainment of engineering, operations, and program management tools supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This role ensures that technical teams have reliable, secure, and efficient tooling to support system development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operations across FAA programs. The ideal candidate brings strong experience with engineering toolchains, automation, and platform integration, along with the ability to operate in a compliance-driven federal environment supporting aviation safety and modernization initiatives.

In this position, you will:

  • Design, configure, and maintain engineering and operational tools supporting development, testing, deployment, and monitoring.

  • Support toolsets across the lifecycle, including requirements management, configuration management, CI/CD, testing, and reporting.

  • Integrate tools with platforms such as ServiceNow, Jira, Git, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring systems, and cloud platforms.

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and workflows to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.

  • Ensure tools are configured in compliance with FAA policies, RMF, NIST, and cybersecurity requirements.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve tool performance, integration, and access issues.

  • Collaborate with engineering, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, and IT operations teams to align tooling with program needs.

  • Support tool upgrades, patching, and version management with minimal operational impact.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and user guides.

  • Provide Tier 3 support and technical guidance to tool users and administrators.

  • Support audit readiness by ensuring tools and configurations meet compliance and documentation standards.

Why This Role Matters

FAA programs depend on well-integrated, dependable tools to manage complex systems, workflows, and data across the National Airspace System (NAS). As a Tools Engineer, you ensure that engineering, testing, and operations teams can work efficiently, consistently, and securely. Your work directly supports system reliability, delivery velocity, audit readiness, and operational excellence—enabling the FAA to modernize while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

  • Strong scripting or automation experience using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages.
  • Understanding of system development lifecycles (SDLC) and engineering workflows.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with RMF, NIST 800-53, and compliance considerations for tooling platforms.
