Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled IT Infrastructure Architect to design, implement, and oversee enterprise infrastructure solutions in alignment with the NIST 800-53 security and compliance framework in support of the FAA BNATCS contract. This role is critical in ensuring that our IT systems are secure, resilient, and scalable, while meeting stringent federal and industry regulatory requirements. The Infrastructure Architect will collaborate with cybersecurity, compliance, and operations teams to build a secure foundation for business and mission-critical applications.

 

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Design & Architecture

  • Develop and maintain enterprise infrastructure blueprints (network, storage, compute, cloud, virtualization).
  • Ensure infrastructure designs comply with NIST 800-53 security controls and organizational policies.
  • Architect hybrid environments (on-premises and cloud) with a focus on scalability, resilience, and compliance.

Security & Compliance

  • Integrate NIST 800-53 control requirements into infrastructure planning and implementation.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure secure configurations and continuous monitoring.
  • Support audits, assessments, and accreditation processes (e.g., FISMA, FedRAMP).

Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate risks in infrastructure design and deployment.
  • Conduct security impact analyses for infrastructure changes.
  • Maintain documentation of security controls, configurations, and system boundaries.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner with IT leadership, system owners, and compliance officers to align infrastructure with business needs.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers and administrators on secure infrastructure practices.
  • Lead infrastructure projects from design through implementation and ongoing support.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with emerging technologies, federal security standards, and best practices.
  • Recommend enhancements to improve performance, security, and compliance posture.
  • Drive automation and modernization initiatives to streamline infrastructure management.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field and 8 years of experience, Master's degree and 6 years of experience, or Ph.D. and 3 years of experience in IT infrastructure design and architecture.
  • Strong knowledge of NIST 800-53 security controls and compliance frameworks (FISMA, FedRAMP).
  • Expertise in networking, virtualization, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and enterprise storage.
  • Experience with identity and access management (IAM), encryption, and secure system design.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell).
  • Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, or Microsoft/AWS/Azure Architect certifications are highly desirable.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a Public Trust as required for the contract.
  • This is a remote capable position, however, candidates must live in the DC/MD/NoVA local area.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to translate regulatory requirements into technical solutions.
  • 6-8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure design and architecture is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Experience working in federal or regulated environments.

Target Salary Range

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
