Responsibilities

We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative IT Tools and Automation Engineer to design, implement, and manage enterprise IT tools and automation solutions within a NIST 800-53 compliant enclave in support of the FAA BNATCS contract. This role is responsible for ensuring that IT tools used for project management, configuration management, visualization dashboards meet program and federal security and compliance requirements while enabling operational efficiency. The IT Tools Engineer will collaborate with infrastructure, cybersecurity, compliance, and program engineering teams to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable toolsets.  The successful candidate will have depth of experience with tools like Jira, Confluence, Git Lab, PowerBI, Jama, Cameo, ServiceNow, etc.

 

Key Responsibilities

Tool Development & Integration

  • Design, deploy, and maintain IT tools for monitoring, automation, and service management.
  • Integrate tools with existing infrastructure, applications, and cloud environments.
  • Automate workflows to improve IT operations efficiency and reduce manual effort.

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure all tools and integrations comply with NIST 800-53 security controls.
  • Implement secure configurations, access controls, and logging for IT tools.
  • Partner with cybersecurity teams to support audits, assessments, and accreditation

Operations & Support

  • Provide Tier 2/3 support for IT tool-related issues and escalations.
  • Monitor tool performance, availability, and security events.
  • Maintain documentation of configurations, procedures, and compliance evidence.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with infrastructure, application, and security teams to align toolsets with organizational needs.
  • Provide technical guidance on tool usage, automation, and best practices in regulated environments.
  • Contribute to modernization initiatives and tool lifecycle management.

Continuous Improvement

  • Recommend enhancements to improve tool performance, security, and compliance posture.
  • Drive adoption of DevSecOps practices and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field with 8 years of experience, Master's with 6 years of experience, or PhD with 3 years of experience specific to IT tool development and automation.
  • The ability to obtain/maintain Public Trust as dictated by the contract.
  • This is a remote capable role, however, candidates must be in the immediate local area (DC/MD/NoVA).
  • Strong knowledge of NIST 800-53 security controls and compliance frameworks (FISMA, FedRAMP).
  • Hands-on experience with IT tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, Confluence, Git Lab, Power Platform, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid environments.
  • Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or cloud/DevOps certifications are highly desirable.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to translate regulatory requirements into technical solutions.
  • 6+ years of experience in IT infrastructure design and architecture.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Experience working in federal or regulated environments.
  • Experience driving DevSecOps practices and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions

Target Salary Range

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
