Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Tajikistan Linguist and Cultural Advisor (CULAD) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting a large program. This position is located in Jordan. 

 

Location: Camp Xiphos, Jordan

 

Role: 

  • The Tajiki Linguist/CULAD will provide continuous monitoring, expert analysis, and assessment of global, regional, and tailored area geopolitical media and news sources.
  • The position is an unaccompanied one-year assignment that can be extended by the customer and if elected by the individual chosen to provide support. 

Responsibilities:

  • To gather information on trends, behaviors, events and directed global developments to generate media synopsis reports and assessments of local geopolitics and foreign media discourse.
  • Provide expert advice to DoD/MIL leadership of social media influence operations, draft policy, doctrine, decisions, trends concepts, and studies.
  • Translate, interpret and analyze oral and written material such as classified reports, data, briefings and conversations.
  • Provide translation in written or oral form.
  • Provide assessments, transcription, translation, interpretation, cultural advisement, and media analysis services to ensure actionable data and products are developed and processed quickly and accurately.
  • Provide written translations of source texts in one language into another language, as identified above, with the meaning and intent of the original text (Translations).
  • Translator will (1) read and comprehend the languages, (2) write comprehensibly in one of the source languages, and (3) choose the equivalent expression in the Source language that both fully conveys and best matches the meaning intended in the source language (referred to as congruity judgment).
  • As an Interpreter, have a command of both of the languages (Tajik/English).
  • Must be able to (1) comprehend both the source language and English as spoken and written, (2) speak both of these languages, (3) choose an expression in English that fully conveys and best matches the meaning of the source language, (4) have familiarity with the cultural context of both languages, (5) have knowledge of terminology in specialized fields, (6) research in source (Native) Arabic languages and write a comprehensive.
  • Produce predictive recommendations and identify anticipated strategic communications opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop marketing and support communications plans.
  • Monitor industry and technology trends in traditional, digital, social, mobile media.
  • Use directed, or design research methods appropriate to pre-defined client criteria.
  • Interpret and analyze oral and written source material such as classified reports, data, briefings and conversations.
  • Provide cultural expertise in written or oral form in both native Tajik and U.S. English.
  • As needed the SME shall participate in Interagency and Coalitions working groups and serve as the Operational Cultural advisor expertise.
  • Analyze data for coded patterns of information.
  • Interpret data for information for a range of deductions encompassing breadth of subjects.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree and minimum of 8 years of experience or a Master's degree and 6 years of experience. May accept an additional 4 years of experience in lieu of a degree. 
  • 5 years of experience as a researcher monitoring media and providing analysis of trends, political events, and geopolitical impacts.
  • Must be of Tajikistan heritage who speaks/reads/writes Tajiki.
  • Must have experience with Tajikistan target audience (males 18-36 years old) pop culture and associated social media technology.
  • Previous experience with US Military forces in a direct supporting role to MISO/IO/IW/IRCs.
  • Minimum of 5 years working or living within the CCMD AOR.
  • A minimum of passing 4/4/4 testing scores in English and 5/5/5 in Tajiki.
  • Demonstrated superior Tajiki reading, writing, and speaking skills.
  • Ability to provide high quality presentations and work with small and large groups.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the cultural differences, nuances, customs, symbolism, mannerisms, and traditions of the various ethnic groups residing throughout the Middle East.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral, written and electronic communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated capability to work with Microsoft Office applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • U.S. Citizenship required. 
  • Current, Active DoD Top-Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility. 
  • Must possess a valid U.S. Passport, not expiring within 1 Year.
  • Must be fully eligible for Jordanian Visa.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent Native Cultural Experience – Tajikistan native.
  • Language ability in another required language; Russian, Farsi, Arabic at the same levels.
  • Experience with DOD/MIL Information Operations.
  • Broad Experience as a media monitor/researcher for the DoD.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
