Responsibilities

 

Peraton is seeking a Server and Virtualization Engineer in Washington D.C. who is responsible for but not limited to:

 

  • Designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing the server infrastructure within an organization, including hardware, software, network configurations, and security measures, to ensure smooth operation, high availability, and efficient data processing
  • Utilizing expert knowledge of server and hypervisor systems to ensure hypervisors are optimized for cost, performance, and availability
  • Server configuration
  • Performance Monitoring and optimization
  • Troubleshooting issues
  • Implementing security updates
  • Planning for future infrastructure upgrades
  • Providing designs, recommendations, and expertise to the government on improvements or enhancements to the server and virtualization infrastructure to improve stability, performance, and availability
  • Server design and deployment
  • Server administration
  • Troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • Security management
  • Disaster recovery and planning
  • Capacity planning and automation
  • Implementing and utilizing common automation technologies where possible to optimize and create efficiency in the work center. These technologies include Terraform, PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, Python, VMware CLI, and others as appropriate
  • Collaborating with various work centers to ensure that virtualization requirements are understood and delivered to meet intended outcomes
  • Providing support to the service within Government approved timeframes for upgrades, vulnerability management and break-fix actions

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • Requires an active TS/SCI 
  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; 4 additional years of relevant experience can be substituted for degree
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience supporting systems of similar size, scope, and complexity
  • Relevant experience as it pertains to our customer requirement can be substituted for education
  • Demonstrated experience with server hardware and management systems, hypervisor solutions, virtual server operating on-premise, hybrid, and cloud-based environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing, maintaining, monitoring, troubleshooting, and updating bare metal server hardware, hardware management systems, and hypervisors. Automation and orchestration of the maintenance and monitoring of these systems and integrating new solutions.
  • DoD 8140 IAT II compliant.

 

Preferred:

  • Certifications in order of preference:
    • VMware, Azure, or AWS Administrator
    • Microsoft Certified Windows Server Hybrid Administrator
    • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (retired in 2021)

Target Salary Range

$146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
