Responsibilities

Peraton is hiring a Mid-Career Systems Engineer to facilitate the Product Architecture of the government customer's deployment of solutions as part of a large High Performance Computing (HPC) related program. This program is on the cutting edge and includes everything from HPC test planning and execution, architecture design and prototyping, and vendor outreach and collaboration support. Program technical areas include commercial cloud technologies, high performance computing, and enterprise architecture.  The program is tactically important to the national security of the United States and the work on these missions are frequently recognized for their results and the Program Integrator will be directly involved in ensuring the government is successful in achieving their planned objectives of this growing, high-profile program.

 

The Product Architecture Mid-Career Systems Engineer:

  • Analyzes user’s requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications.
  • Analyzes system requirements and leads design and development activities.
  • Guides users in formulating requirements, advises alternative approaches, and conducts feasibility studies.
  • Provides technical leadership for the integration of requirements, design, and technology.
  • Incorporates new plans, designs and systems into ongoing operations.
  • Develops technical documentation.
  • Develops system Architecture and system design documentation.
  • Guides system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans.
  • Interacts with the Government regarding Systems Engineering technical considerations and for associated problems, issues or conflicts.
  • Is responsible for the technical integrity of work performed and deliverables associated with the Systems Engineering area of responsibility.
  • Communicates with other program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives. Candidate must have excellent communication and collaboration skills with a variety of stakeholder groups, ability to proactively engage with these groups to understand requirements and inform system architecture decisions.

Typical tasks include:

  • Assist with leading a product-development effort to enhance and sustain multiple R&D environments used for environment/system-software development and application development
  • Create Ansible code for system-services and infrastructure management
  • Administrate and manage R&D environments, lab hardware, and IT services
  • Diagnose issues and resolve service requests from environment users
  • Create and iteratively refine system diagrams, design documentation, and implementation documentation with Product Owner (PO), leadership, and team members
  • Assist in breaking down technical work into stories, task, or tickets
  • Communicate with external vendors (equipment, software, tools, warranty)
  • Guides the creation of work items for the team backlog
  • Plans, defines, and creates detailed designs of the products
  • Defines and communicate a shared technical and architectural vision to the team
  • Collaborates with Release Architects and other Product Architects to analyze technical trade-offs and define non-functional requirements
  • Validate technology assumptions
  • Evaluate implementation strategies
  • Collaborate with Product Owner and Scrum Coach in preparation for SAFe/agile ceremonies, including Sprint Reviews, Inspect and Adapt, and Program Increment (PI) Planning events
  • Enables continuous delivery for the team
  • Coordinates with Product Owner to take on work items from the backlog

  • Self-motivated; works independently, as well as with a team, to ensure that all components are functioning properly
  • Will stay abreast of latest industry trends in both open source and commercial metrics and monitoring solutions. Supports determination of -if-and -when to incorporate them into an IaC solution

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

 

  • A High School Diploma or GED plus twelve (12) years of general systems engineering experience, OR
    • Bachelor’s degree in a qualified engineering field or a related discipline from an accredited college or university plus seven (7) years of systems engineering experience, OR
    • A Master’s degree in a qualified engineering field or a related discipline from an accredited college or university plus five (5) years of systems engineering experience, OR
    • A PhD in a Qualified Engineering Field or a related discipline from an accredited college or university plus three (3) years of systems engineering experience.
  • Position requires an active TS/SCI clearance with full-scope polygraph. Candidate’s most recent security polygraph must have been within the last 5 years.
  • Experience with leading a team effort
  • Experience with Technical Planning over a 2-year timeframe
  • Experience with Linux systems administration and both Ansible, and YAML
  • Scripting/programming experience in Bash or Python
  • Must be knowledgeable in:
    • Government or Industry security practices, policies, and implementation, such as STE/STN
    • Networking
    • Security
    • DevOps and automation
    • VMware products such as ESXi, vSphere
    • NetApp
    • Centrify
    • Red Hat Satellite
    • Systematic debugging and troubleshooting

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
