Join a team dedicated to protecting the safety and integrity of U.S. air travel. Peraton is seeking a Wireless Engineer, SME to support the modernization and sustainment of the National Airspace System (NAS) through advanced wireless telecommunications and FAA surveillance systems. In this role, you will analyze, design, and develop wireless network capabilities and radar systems that are critical to safe and efficient air travel. From building custom applications and optimizing wireless networks to supporting the design, integration, and sustainment of short-to-medium range radar systems, you will directly contribute to the future of U.S. aviation infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Wireless Network Design & Optimization

    • Design, plan, establish, and optimize wireless networks, including RF link performance and reliability.

    • Monitor and analyze statistical and drive test data to improve system KPIs (e.g., dropped calls, blocked calls, handoff features).

    • Apply propagation, cellular, and antenna theory to recommend optimal tower and antenna placements.

    • Conduct GSM frequency planning, capacity planning, and interference analysis; recommend site upgrades and parameter adjustments.

  • Radar & RF Systems Engineering

    • Provide subject matter expertise on radar system design, integration, operations, and lifecycle sustainment.

    • Support FAA surveillance programs with performance analysis, troubleshooting, and modernization planning.

    • Design and evaluate RF subsystems (up/down converters, amplifiers, MMICs, MCMs, TRMs).

    • Conduct modeling, simulation, and test/evaluation plans for RF circuits and propagation.

  • Technical Leadership & Support

    • Collaborate with FAA stakeholders, contractors, and engineering teams to align with mission objectives.

    • Develop software applications and tools to support wireless and RF technologies.

    • Create manuals, technical documentation, and operational support materials.

    • Deliver technical reports, recommendations, and briefings to FAA leadership.

    • Lead or contribute to engineering initiatives that enhance the safety, efficiency, and reliability of FAA surveillance operations.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance. 
  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of experience or Masters degree and 10 years or Associate’s degree and 14 years experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 16 years experience. 
  • Proven, hands-on expertise with short-to-medium range radar systems, including design, integration, testing, or operational support.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform performance analysis and deliver clear, actionable technical recommendations.
  • Recognized as a strong technical contributor who thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with or for the FAA, DOT, or state aviation authorities.

  • Familiarity with FAA NextGen and Alaska aviation safety initiatives.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
