Join a team dedicated to protecting the safety and integrity of U.S. air travel. Peraton is seeking an highly strategic Mission Safety Liaison to serve as the key bridge between leadership, program offices, and field operations to advance safety initiatives across the National Airspace System (NAS). In this role, you will coordinate safety communications, facilitate risk management discussions, and ensure that modernization efforts, technical operations, and mission systems are implemented in compliance with FAA safety principles and regulatory standards.

 

 

In this position, you will:

  • Accountable for making certain that all integrated capabilities including automation, surveillance, voice, telecommunications, and facility systems are evaluated, documented, and deployed in accordance with FAA Safety Management System (SMS) principles and related standards.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for safety communications between FAA leadership, engineering teams, and operational stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation of Safety Management System (SMS) principles and practices across FAA programs.
  • Monitor program and system changes to evaluate safety impacts, dependencies, and risk factors.
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and the development of corrective action plans.
  • Ensure FAA modernization and deployment activities meet safety and compliance standards.
  • Prepare and maintain safety documentation, briefings, and compliance reports.
  • Collaborate with other offices and external partners to promote cross-functional safety alignment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of safety processes, training, and operational readiness.
  • Play a vital role in ensuring mission safety and risk reduction across modernization efforts.
  • Support audits, assessments, and reviews by FAA safety boards or external oversight bodies.
  • Collaborate with engineering and test teams to verify that safety mitigations are implemented, validated, and traceable.
  • Facilitate regular safety assessments and work with domain leads (Automation, Voice, Surveillance, Facilities, Telecom) to verify risks are updated and actionable.
  • Participate in system design reviews, readiness assessments, and technical interchange meetings to inject safety perspectives into every phase.
  • Coordinate with FAA safety engineers, program offices, and operational stakeholders to facilitate acceptance and approval of safety documentation.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance. 
  • 12 years of experience in aviation safety on federal or aviation programs, with strong understanding of aviation system safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with risk management tools, frameworks (e.g., DOD 5000, ISO 31000, FAA AMS), and risk quantification methods.
  • Experience developing Safety Risk Management Document (SRMD), Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), System Safety Assessments (SSAs), and other safety engineering artifacts.
  • Familiarity with FAA SMS, National Airspace System (NAS) safety processes, and system engineering lifecycles
  • Ability to evaluate technical architectures for safety implications and propose corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating safety engineering into Agile programs, including participation in Program Increment (PI) planning, sprint reviews, and backlog grooming to align safety tasks with delivery.
  • Understanding of safety interactions with cybersecurity, human factors, and operational training.
  • Familiarity with Jira and Confluence for tracking safety risks, mitigation tasks, and verification steps as part of delivery.
  • Proven ability to align SRMD updates and safety readiness with Agile milestones, including system demos, releases, and operational cutovers,
  • Understanding of how safety processes interface with Agile system development, testing, and deployment across multiple technical domains.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with or for the FAA, DOT, or state aviation authorities.
  • Prior experience supporting FAA NextGen, NAS modernization, or federal aviation strategy programs.
  • Degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Safety Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certification in Safety Management (e.g., Certified Safety Professional [CSP], Certified Systems Engineering Professional [CSEP] with safety emphasis).
  • Familiarity with international aviation safety standards (ICAO Annex 19, EUROCONTROL, ISO 45001).
  • Familiarity with FAA Order 8000.369 (SMS Policy) and related federal safety guidance.
  • Experience with safety risk management (SRM) and safety assurance (SA) processes.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
