Responsibilities

The Health and Financial Solutions Team is seeking a Scrum Master to join our Agile team supporting the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to drive enhancements to the Medicare Durable Medical Equipment (DME) claims processing. The Scrum Master serves as a team-based servant leader who supports and empowers Developers, Test Engineers, Business Analysts, and Product Owners to deliver CMS initiatives using Lean-Agile leadership and principles. The Scrum Master partners closely with the Product Owner to coach the team in understanding and applying Agile practices to achieve high-quality, iterative delivery.

 

This role plans and facilitates all key Agile ceremonies—Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Daily Sync, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives—to ensure the team’s focus on continuous improvement and delivery of value. In addition to managing Scrum activities for assigned teams, this position also contributes to the advancement of cohesive Agile practices across the broader organization and supports the growth and development of other Scrum Masters as needed.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a servant leader for Agile team(s), fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the Product Owner to ensure clarity and prioritization of work items that align with business goals.
  • Plan and facilitate core Agile ceremonies: Sprint Planning, Refinement, Daily Sync, Reviews, and Retrospectives.
  • Coach the team on Agile principles, self-organization, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous delivery.
  • Identify and resolve team impediments to maintain delivery momentum and improve effectiveness.
  • Mentor team members and promote the use of Agile metrics for transparency and performance improvement.
  • Collaborate with Agile Coaches and other Scrum Masters to share best practices and drive consistent Agile maturity across the organization.
  • Contribute to the evolution and continuous improvement of Agile frameworks and processes within the organization.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA
  • Working knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is desirable.
  • Proven experience guiding and coaching teams in Agile practices and principles to deliver quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to elevate team performance by recognizing strengths, addressing improvement areas, and applying appropriate coaching techniques.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills to engage effectively across diverse roles and stakeholders.
  • Ability to foster an environment of trust, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Demonstrated experience resolving impediments and driving accountability within Agile teams.
  • Passion for learning, adaptability, and a delivery-oriented mindset.
  • Experience using tools such as Jira and Confluence (or similar).
  • Certification(s) such as Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), or Professional Scrum Master (PSM)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Medicare Part A, Part B, CWF, or DME systems.
  • Knowledge of CMS healthcare claims processing
  • Knowledge of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
  • Prior federal program or CMS related experience.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, TestRail, GitHub

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
