Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Drafter IV to join our team of diverse, qualified individuals.  The Drafter works at the United States Postal Service (USPS) Central Repair Facility (CRF) in Topeka, KS.  The CRF is a depot repair facility for USPS mail processing, delivery, and bulk mail systems repairable parts. Examples: repairing printed circuit boards, electrical, electronic, mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies to component level. The CRF provides depot level maintenance for essential automation, mechanization, retail and bulk mail processing systems used in all mail processing and retail installations.

 

Our Drafter prepares complex detailed drawings and makes indicated revisions to existing drawings. Specific tasks include: 

  • Completes details of major layout drawings prepared by others in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices
  • Determines scaling; inserts necessary reference planes, centering and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations, and sectioning; prepares specifications for parts, assemblies, and installations; prepares complete production detail drawings; contributes design modifications to improve quality of product or facilitate manufacturing operations
  • Prepares complex digital/electronic schematics and component layouts
  • Prepares detailed illustrated parts breakdown drawings for fabrication process
  • Revise drawings to approved change notices
  • Develops engineering design drawings from engineer and technical writer notes and sketches
  • Exercises independent judgment when interpreting notes based on knowledge of design intent
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: 

  • High school graduate
  • Two years of technical training in computer aided drafting, or military training, and basic technical engineering knowledge with three years of related experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance 
  • U.S. Citizenship required (Must have resided in the U.S. for the past five years with no more than six months travel outside the U.S. during this timeframe)
  • In-depth working knowledge of computer aided drafting
  • Two years technical training (or military training) in CAD basic principals
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
  • Proficiency using precision mechanical and digital measurement tools
  • Ability to create mechanical and electronic drawings and schematics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years experience with AUTOCAD, AUTODESK, or Inventor software
  • Basic understanding of mathematics including descriptive geometry

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • Physical activity may include reaching, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motion
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal

Target Salary Range

The rate / range per hour below represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
