Responsibilities

Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA’s Business, National Airspace, and Technical Computing Services (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton helps deliver the systems and services that keep our nation’s skies safe and connected. We’re looking for innovative professionals who thrive in mission-critical environments and are passionate about shaping the future of air traffic management. This is your chance to make an impact on one of the world’s most vital transportation infrastructures, working alongside leaders in aviation, engineering, data science, and systems integration.

At Peraton, you won’t just support the mission — you’ll define it.

Help shape the future of U.S. airspace safety and efficiency. We are seeking a Automation Developer (SME) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The ideal candidate will design, build, and optimize automation solutions in support of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In this role, you will provide advanced technical expertise in developing custom automation scripts, pipelines, and frameworks to support modernization initiatives across FAA infrastructure, applications, and mission-critical systems. As an SME, you will lead technical development efforts, collaborate with engineers and architects, and ensure automation solutions are secure, scalable, and compliant with federal and FAA standards. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain in-depth experience in federal contracting while supporting high-visibility aviation programs.

In this position, you will:

  • Design, develop, and implement custom automation solutions for systems and processes.

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and integrate automation into development and operations workflows.

  • Create and optimize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates and configuration scripts.

  • Collaborate with architects, system engineers, and cybersecurity teams to ensure secure integration of automation tools.

  • Provide SME-level guidance on automation tools, languages, and frameworks to program teams.

  • Develop automated testing frameworks for performance, scalability, and compliance validation.

  • Ensure automation solutions align with FAA standards, federal requirements (NIST, RMF, FedRAMP), and Zero Trust principles.

  • Perform code reviews, troubleshooting, and performance tuning for automation scripts and pipelines.

  • Mentor developers and engineers in automation best practices, coding standards, and secure development.

  • Document solutions and prepare technical reports, guidance materials, and executive briefings for leadership.

Why This Role Matters

The FAA is the cornerstone of aviation safety and innovation. The Automation Developer – SME ensures that manual processes are replaced with reliable, repeatable, and secure automation solutions that reduce risk, improve performance, and accelerate mission delivery.
