We are seeking a highly experienced Telecommunications Engineering Specialist to play a critical role in the transformation of the nation’s air traffic control system. This ambitious initiative is focused on enhancing safety, improving reliability and security, reducing outages, lowering total cost of ownership, and modernizing the aviation system with state-of-the-art technologies and facilities. In this role, you will Engineer and configure voice and telecom systems, ensuring performance under demanding operational conditions.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct capacity planning, network design validation, and hands-on configuration for both TDM and IP systems.
  • Integrate voice systems with automation platforms and network infrastructures.
  • Document engineering specifications and troubleshoot complex performance issues.
  • Provide on-site technical support for critical system upgrades or emergency maintenance.
  • Lead peer reviews of engineering work products to ensure compliance and quality.
  • Actively participate in FAA modernization working groups to align engineering efforts with broader NAS initiatives.
  • Perform root cause analyses on complex performance issues across multiple sites.
  • Design and implement automated monitoring tools to track voice network health and performance.
  • Support field technicians during critical incident responses.
  • Provide configuration management and documentation to ensure consistency across FAA systems.
  • Collaborate with vendors to evaluate and integrate next-generation telecom hardware and software.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • 8+ years with BS (or equivalent)
  • Expertise in large, multi-site telecom engineering, with FAA NAS experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of TDM/IP protocols, failover mechanisms, and QoS.
  • Proven track record resolving high-impact issues in mission-critical environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with IP routing, switching, and QoS configuration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to FAA programs or NAS systems.
  • Knowledge of vitalization technologies and cloud-based telecom solutions is a plus.
  • Familiarity with FAA compliance standards and mission-critical telecom systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in 24/7 operational environments.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
