Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor focused on deliverables to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Herndon, VA with some remote work possible. The qualified applicant will become part of Peraton's Department of State (DOS) Consular Systems Modernization (CSM) Program, for the Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA). This initiative will modernize and consolidate the operational environment under a common technology framework in order to better support the services provided to CA’s customers. 

 

As part of the modernization program, the Technical Writer/Editor will be responsible for staging, reviewing/revising for consistency, delivering, and archiving weekly, monthly, and quarterly deliverables. The Technical Writer/Editor must be able to coordinate and work with individuals in a variety of skill areas, including software developers, users, and subject matter experts.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Writes, edits, and formats technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
  • Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, referring to technical specifications and engineering illustrations.
  • Creates and updates program templates.
  • Maintains CDRL version control and archives deliveries.
  • Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.
  • Tracks CDRL updates and conducts quality review of materials.
  • Provides draft delivery letters to Contracts; prepares and completes deliveries.
  • Creates event signage and coordinates printing.
  • Performs fairly complex tasks and participates in determining objectives of assignment. Plans schedules and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and eight (8) years of experience.
  • Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards.
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and communication skills.
  • Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities/deadlines simultaneously.
  • Full knowledge of industry practices. Independently demonstrates the skill and ability to perform fairly complex professional tasks.
  • Must be able to read, interpret, and design complex engineering drawings, specifications, and system description documents.
  • Must have experience utilizing SharePoint for purposes of Data Management and Version Control.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able and willing to work during non-standard business hours to ensure timely delivery of contractually required deliverables.
  • Independently demonstrates the skill and ability to perform fairly complex professional tasks.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Suite 2016, Adobe Acrobat DC, and SharePoint.
  • Must be able to obtain or have an Active Secret (or higher) clearance. Interim clearances acceptable. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
  • Proficiency in Data Visualization using Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency in MS Visio or other illustration tools.
  • Experience with graphic design.
  • Experience drafting documents related to software development such as Installation Guides.
  • Experience supporting a US government agency in preparing program-level contract deliverables.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to develop technical documentation.

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
