Responsibilities

Peraton Space Technology Services (STS) is the prime contractor on the Environmental Test and Integration Services III (ETIS III) contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC).  We support the GSFC Engineering and Technology Directorate’s Mechanical Systems Division in Greenbelt, Maryland. We provide facility operations and maintenance as well as integration and testing to support spaceflight hardware development. 

 

The GSFC Environmental Test and Integration Facilities ensure spacecraft and flight experiments will withstand the rigors of launch and will operate properly in the space environment. In addition to operations, these technical facilities have on-going goals of advancing the state-of-the-art in the development of improved space flight systems. The GSFC Environmental Test and Integration Facilities are one of the most complete and comprehensive space hardware test complexes within the United States Government.

 

The On-call Subject Matter Expert will work with flight projects, and thermal vacuum test engineering technicians and engineers to execute tests using the environmental test facilities at GSFC. The support will be requested in advance and will require the ability to adapt to changing shifts, weekend and holiday support on short notice and extended hours as required.

 

Responsibilities of the position:

  • Performs multiple routine and non-routine complex tasks, demonstrating full competency while following procedures and working independently under the minimal direction of the facility engineer and/or technical supervisor.
  • Will be assigned to support the operation of the GSFC Space Environment Simulation (SES) test facility and will conduct test activities in support of the RST SCIPA thermal vacuum test.
  • Will assist facility and test engineers in performing spacecraft environmental tests
  • Operating the control console and directing others during the execution of the test plan
  • Troubleshooting and repairing support equipment; reporting status to leadership.
  • May direct others while leading tasks and be assigned as a shift leader when directed by ETIS management.
  • Will delegate, manage and monitor assigned tasks. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or thermal engineering or related field
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience with operating, maintaining and troubleshooting thermal vacuum
  • Experience with cryogenic equipment.
  • Interpret drawings and schematics for mechanical, electrical, and thermal systems.
  • Proficiency with user interface applications (LabView, TVDS, P&ID and SCADA). 
  • Understanding of payload and space environment simulation testing, concepts, and general practices.
  • Intermediate level skills of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with NASA Goddard Contracts

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
