Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team supporting critical national security and defense missions. As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of systems engineering processes — from initial concept development and requirements analysis to integration, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. This role requires strong analytical skills, deep technical knowledge, and the ability to effectively collaborate with both government stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Requirements Analysis & Development:

    • Analyze end-user requirements, Concept of Operations (CONOPS) documents, and high-level system architectures to derive and define detailed system requirements specifications.

    • Work closely with stakeholders to elicit, clarify, and validate functional and non-functional requirements.

    • Translate operational needs into technical requirements that guide design and development activities.

  • System Design & Architecture:

    • Lead the design and development of complex system architectures, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and alignment with mission objectives.

    • Develop system architecture artifacts and system design documentation in accordance with established standards and frameworks (e.g., DoDAF, TOGAF).

    • Incorporate new technologies, capabilities, and system enhancements into existing and future architectures.

  • Technical Leadership & Guidance:

    • Provide technical leadership in integrating system requirements, design, and enabling technologies.

    • Guide users in formulating needs and evaluating solution alternatives.

    • Advise on engineering trade-offs, feasibility studies, and risk assessments to support informed decision-making.

  • Project Integration & Planning:

    • Support system development lifecycle (SDLC) processes including planning, execution, and oversight of integration and implementation efforts.

    • Prepare and review engineering management plans, system integration and test plans, and other related documentation to ensure seamless system delivery and operational readiness.

    • Ensure traceability from requirements through design, implementation, and verification.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for Systems Engineering-related matters, interfacing with government customers, program management, and internal teams.

    • Proactively identify and address technical issues, risks, and conflicts, ensuring alignment across project teams and with customer expectations.

    • Provide regular status updates and briefings to government representatives and senior executives.

  • Documentation & Deliverables:

    • Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation throughout the system lifecycle, including requirements traceability matrices, interface control documents, system specifications, and test reports.

    • Ensure that all deliverables meet project, customer, and contractual requirements with a focus on accuracy, clarity, and completeness.

  • Quality Assurance & Integrity:

    • Maintain ultimate responsibility for the technical integrity of all systems engineering efforts.

    • Uphold industry and organizational standards for engineering excellence, reliability, and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Eight (8) years experience as a SE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity is required. Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Five (5) years of additional SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance with a current polygraph.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience with Jupyter Notebooks, Python and Big data tools (No SQL).
