Responsibilities

The AV/VTC Engineer monitors the operation of assigned applications, servers, and storage devices to optimize performance while taking actions as appropriate to prevent or limit hardware or software failure. The Engineer confers with software systems engineering and/or applications programming personnel if errors require a change of instructions or sequences of operations.  This position is responsible for the maintenance of up-to-date records and the submission of required accounting reports.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

 

  • Operates, maintains, and defends VTC & MCU systems.
  • Contributes to the Engineering team in the development of engineering projects.
  • Builds engineering documentation.
  • Develops configurations and site-specific details of engineering packages.
  • Leads the team in incident resolution.
  • Contributes to incident resolutions with the ability to lead when required. 
  • Engineers enterprise data, voice, and video networks.
  • Establishes operating network test facilities.  
  • Builds and reviews engineering documentation, including diagrams and configuration records to help ensure that the UC systems are properly managed and maintained.
  • Engineers enterprise voice, and video UC systems that are scalable, reliable, and secure, and making recommendations for improvements as needed.
  • Collaborates with other teams, such as network and security engineers, to ensure that the UC systems are integrated with the overall IT infrastructure and are secure from cyber threats.
  • Designs, develops, evaluates, and modifies end-to-end systems and systems-oriented products through their entire lifecycle.
  • Establishes and coordinates development of standards, practices, and procedures as related to the overall product development.
  • Translates high level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with multi-disciplined engineering teams to develop lower-level detailed requirements.
  • Participates in design reviews of components (hardware and software) to ensure applicability to the current system and traceability of requirements through compliance verification and validation. 
  • Generates system level requirements verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures. 
  • Reviews test plans/procedures and ensures they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and participates in the testing process to validate requirements. 
  • Keeps technical skills updated and studies vendor products to determine those which best meet the Government’s needs.  
  • Provides guidance and direction for junior network support.
  • Installs, configures, manages, maintains, operates, and defends common area VTC equipment, including day-to-day setup, scheduling, and monitoring.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and administers multiple simultaneous VTC sessions.
  • Provides dedicated support to VTCs attended by VIPs.
  • Recommend upgrades to VTC systems.
  • Provides version control and provisioning via a Telepresence Management Suite (TMS) for VTC CODECs.
  • Installs flat panel displays, room based VTC endpoints, projectors, and A/V equipment.
  • Resolves issues down to the equipment level (black box).
  • Manages, maintains, and posts a daily MSL and shift change procedures. 
  • Schedules, configures, and connects users to DISA GVS and DVS conferences.
  • Trains designated personnel on the operation of VTC equipment.

Qualifications

  • HS with 12 years of experience, or AS/AA degree with 10 years of experience or BA/BS with 8 years of experience, or MS with 6 years of experience, or PhD with 3 years of experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to terminate, test and troubleshoot secure/non-secure voice, video, and data cable infrastructure as required. 
  • Expertise in scheduling VTC sessions in VTC bridges
  • Hands-on experience with debugging the interoperation of VTC end points
  • Experience with set up and  troubleshooting AV equipment (displays, microphones, sound boards etc.)
  • DoD TS/SCI clearance or above is required 
  • DoD 8570 IAT II Certification

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
