Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Windows Engineer with a strong background in Windows infrastructure, application support, and application programming. This role involves deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting Windows-based applications, optimizing system performance, and developing automation scripts to improve IT operations. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Windows Server environments, scripting, and application integration, ensuring seamless functionality and high availability of enterprise applications.

 

Day to Day Work Responsibilities:

 

Windows Engineering & Application Support:

  • Support and troubleshoot enterprise applications running on Windows platforms, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
  • Manage IIS (Internet Information Services) for web-based applications, including performance tuning and security configurations.
  • Work closely with development teams to deploy, monitor, and optimize .NET, Java, or other Windows-based applications.
  • Perform application patching, upgrades, and security hardening to maintain compliance with industry standards.

Application Programming & Automation:

  • Develop and maintain PowerShell, Python, or C# scripts to automate system administration, application deployment, and monitoring tasks.
  • Integrate applications with Active Directory, Azure AD, and authentication services (LDAP, SAML, OAuth, etc.).
  • Build and maintain Windows-based APIs, scheduled tasks, and automation workflows for application support.
  • Collaborate with developers to optimize SQL Server databases and troubleshoot application-related database performance issues.
  • Support DevOps initiatives by working with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.).

Performance Monitoring & Security:

  • Implement and maintain monitoring tools (SCOM, Splunk, Nagios, SolarWinds, or equivalent) for proactive application and system monitoring.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for application failures and system issues, ensuring quick resolution and documentation.
  • Apply security best practices, including vulnerability remediation, patch management, and compliance audits.
  • Collaborate with security teams to harden Windows environments and implement role-based access controls (RBAC).

Collaboration & Documentation:

  • Work closely with developers, database administrators, and IT security teams to ensure seamless application integration.
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base articles.
  • Provide technical support and training to junior engineers and end users as needed.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ experience or Associate’s degree and 4 years’ experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 6 years experience
  • Experience as a Windows based Engineer supporting Windows applications and infrastructure.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a public trust clearance.

  • Strong expertise in Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and Group Policy management.
  • Experience supporting Windows-based applications, including web applications running on IIS.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Python, or C#.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL Server administration and application database integration.
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and experience with CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and hybrid cloud deployments.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for both system and application-level issues.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a cross-functional team.

Preferred Certifications:

 

  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104).
  • Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert.
  • ITIL Foundation Certification (preferred for service management best practices, must obtain within 30 days of employment).

Target Salary Range

$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
