Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an experienced State and Local Tax Manager.

 

The State and Local Tax Manager will be a critical member of the corporate tax team. As the State and Local Tax Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the company’s state and local direct and indirect tax functions, including direct and indirect tax compliance and audits.  You will also be responsible for systems improvements and driving efficiencies in compliance. 

 

The ideal candidate is a team player who will work with accounting, procurement, program management, and other teams within the organization to identify opportunities for improvement and areas of potential risk.  They will also perform tax research and monitor current and impending changes to tax regulations to make the appropriate updates to financial systems and procedures. 

 

Other responsibilities include: 

  • Develop, improve, and streamline processes and procedure for sales and use tax compliance, leveraging technologies such as Microsoft Excel, PowerBI and others.
  • Manage and collaborate with outside service providers to deliver timely and accurate state income, franchise, sales and use, gross receipts, and property tax returns.
  • Respond to tax notices and inquiries from tax authorities. Drive resolution of outstanding audits.
  • Analyze GL, reconciliations, and tax reports to ensure accurate reporting of tax; reconcile date between systems to ensure integrity and accuracy.
  • Process and document customer tax exemptions.
  • Maintain overall tax filing and reporting calendar.
  • Identify, develop, and capture efficiency improvements related to workpapers and processes leveraging technologies such as Microsoft Excel, PowerBI and others.
  • Assist with special projects.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or tax
  • 10+ years of SALT compliance experience, preferably with some public accounting experience
  • Preferred candidate has a CPA license
  • US Citizenship

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong technology skills, especially Microsoft Excel and Power BI, Alteryx, or other reporting and analytic tools
  • In-depth knowledge of SALT tax laws, regulations, proven experience managing complex SALT issues and audits
  • Research, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and apply tax laws and regulations
  • Strong organizational skills

Target Salary Range

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
